Yes he was, he was playing mistake free ball and that's honestly the best of his caeer.

He finished the season 5 of 15 for 43 yards with 2 INTs.

that's Sam Darnold after a couple weeks of film.  It always ends the same.

remember, there were folks claiming Sam was in the MVP race after the first several games with Rhule.  Sam is always Sam.  And all NFL teams need is a handful of weeks to figure out how a team is trying to hide his flaws before they feast on Sam.

I see what you're saying, but that wasn't as bad as rejecting the trade for multiple firsts.

It's part of the deal. There were 2 trade offers with Burns as the target. One with the Rams and one as part of the trade with the Bears. Fitterer declined both.

Ship him to the Lions for Jameson Williams and a 1st

That would be my top trade preference as well, the problem with it is that the Lions are going to have to give Hutch a huge contract next offseason, doubt they want to give up on Williams this quickly, while also giving up another 1st, to then turn around and have 2 of the top 5 paid pass rushers in the league.

If they didn't have Hutch, I think that's a trade that makes sense for both sides and might have happened, but Hutch and the way he's been playing screws it all up for us.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Burns traded.  They couldn't agree on a deal.  Now it's evident we are going to suck for some time.  I think they slowly start to shift the language to full rebuild.   Which is what we were setup to be doing.   This braintrust  just couldn't tell the difference between up and down.

but it's Fitt.  Mr. In On Every Deal that is bad for Carolina.   So it will be a bad one.  Probably trades Burns for Chosen Anderson and gives them a 4th on top of it.

CMC is looking like a bigger trade blunder, as he would make a massive difference to our offense right now

We had CMC for 5 seasons and made one playoff game (and lost). We all love CMC but he went to an elite team with an elite HC and an elite defense (the past 4 years they have been to a Super Bowl and 3 NFC Championships) and now gets to showcase what he can do. He would have just been another unhappy Barry Sanders. Great player on a poo team.  We did him a solid and got a good return. Now what we did with the return is questionable.

We did poo with what we got for him. Jags and a project player.

    • No, the casual fan gets sucked into THIS^^^ kind of thinking, and it's so woefully incorrect that it's almost sad. The first is what I've said numerous times, NOTHING about non guaranteed contracts save the billionaire owners a single penny, because they still have to spend their cap floor, and the only reason teams ever don't spend the full limit, is to then roll it over into the next season to be able to spend more that year. But in the end, owners pay the same amount of money no matter what. The reverse is also the same, that the players in totality make the same amount of money as well, because in your example of Clowney not getting that money this year, it will go to another player, as the cap needs to be spent. And you say how we just cut Clowney after we gave him the 2 year contract, but everyone including Clowney's agent and himself, knew when it was signed, that it was more likely to be a 1 year contract than a 2 with how it was structured.  The 2nd year was just to be able to spread out the cap hit and he was always most likely going to end up getting traded or cut. It's why agents and players don't care about the total money in a contract, it's always and only been about the guaranteed money, as the years and overall value are meaningless, always have been, always will be.
    • Agents will have their 1st round picks hold out until the pay structure of their contract is to their liking, not how much money they'll get or even how much is guaranteed, just the when/how they will get the money over the course of the contract. If they're willing to recommend those players hold our, do you really think they won't do it for 2nd rounders to guarantee them an extra 10% of their entire rookie contract?
