Let's play "I could be a better GM than Scott Fitterer"

Let's play a fun game, which move did you look at and say "I could honestly be a better GM than Scott Fitterer".

Rules of the game:

1.  has to be something other than "not drafting Bryce Young"

2. Only list your top answer

3. It can be any move, free agency or the NFL draft

At least when it comes to the NFL draft, I think it was just common sense not to draft a DJ Johnson in the 3rd round let alone trade up for him.  I think I screamed at the TV when it happened.  Supporting evidence of the bust below:

What's yours?

All of his trades. Even the Gilmore one was ill advised in that situation and then they let him walk.

His trading away players and ending up with less talented players with the draft capital has been an issue.

His free agents this year, Bell looks like the bright spot there.

His contracts are usually awful. Moore's was solid but lol

Player evaluations are way off across the board. CB depth, Oline depth and holy crap the switch to the new scheme with the same people is looking crazy bad.

I'm sure there is more I just can't think of it after all of that list.

My answer to this is pretty simple...

I couldn't.

Hell, I doubt I could be a better GM than Marty Hurney and most Huddlers probably know how I feel about him.

Even the personnel people who might be bad if their job still have tons more resources, training and experience than I'll ever have.

I get the game (basically all hindsight, mind you) but that's my answer.

Not drafting or trading for “project” players when the philosophy in the building isn’t to develop projects.

So many clear projects only last a year here. Don’t pretend a project player can learn everything in one training camp and turn into a “win now” guy.

We are overly patient with guys like Ian Thomas, and show no patience with the Brandon Smiths and Corral’s. Watch DJ Johnson get cut next off-season.

All this...

#1 Trading for Darnold

#2 Picking up his 5th year option before even seeing him play a down for us lol

I place the blame on rhule/snow. I think the quote was " I see lots of stanford in darnold". Rhule was the top boss and if he demends a player, its your job to work out the trade.

still fitts without rhule mogging him, has not had good results either...

The whole 2021 QB debacle.

Trading for Darnold before the draft which led to us having to trade Teddy for peanuts and pass on Fields when he fell to 9. Then following that up by NOT trading the 9th pick to the Bears when they obviously wanted to move up and take Fields.

Could have kept the BRIDGEwater QB in place, let Fields develop for a year, and not begin the whole train of throwing away draft picks.

    • I would write “give remmers tight end help” on a yellow sticky note and stuck it in shulas playbook the night before superbowl 50.
    • And don’t worry about Bryce he will be great… Peyton Manning had a horrible rookie year too 😂
    • Nothing wrong with it at all until you start telling others they are bad fans or not fans. But you are the good fan because you never say negative stuff about the team.    I did many years of that type of uninformed fanning because there really was no info and coverage like there is with the internet.    I mean, I used to go to the store and get Street and Smith’s annual football issue. That was about the extent of what you could get if you didn’t live in a big city with sportswriters covering and reporting.  There was no video to look at or replay the games and if you didn’t live in the market you could only rarely see your football team play.    TI have fanned since being a kid in the early 1960s, and as late as 1995 - ‘97 I lived in Atlanta and good luck getting more than 3 or 4 games a year on TV. No radio either. No print coverage outside of an AP recap and box unless they played Atlanta.  People today that have always had the network connection don’t know.    I wasn’t very educated about the Panthers until I finally got internet.
