PFT reporting Caleb Williams wants partial ownership stake in whichever franchise drafts him

So it doesn’t bother anyone that the “media” can report something as ridiculous as this, it sours the public perception of the player, and in 2 weeks when the redaction comes out nobody will care because the narrative is already sown in the public consciousness?

It's a random twitter account that paid for a blue check, not exactly credentialed media.

So? The damage is already done. In this very thread it’s already being taken as “fact” and used to tarnish somebody’s reputation. Most people will read the headline, come away with a completely false narrative and move on with their day.

I don’t think the league would allow any active player to have ownership in a team.

Is it not true? The only thing I've read is that it's rehashing an old story from July. I haven't seen anything that said it wasn't true.

These are two reasonable takes on the situation. It is interesting that all of a sudden this was pushed out on social media platforms and spread the week after the bad loss, even though it was based on a PFT article from July.

Yes, why?

Why are you even following the Panthers if you think they’re just a brand when you’re not even from here?

No serious football fan would delude themselves with that Bill Parcells bullshit ass idea that people cheer for the jersey not the guys wearing them. Of course you move on if the player changes teams, but you never forget what they did while wearing your team’s jersey. When the players suck, everything sucks. You don’t see anyone in here right now bragging about our color scheme or the team’s market value.

I think the crux of the issue is that Caleb has a great arm and can make throws but he’s starting to get the film on him (the classic next years class is better analysis) and people are catching on that he holds on to the ball too damn long and will take sacks to avoid an incompletion. Generational talent gets thrown around too much.

That isn't the most difficult thing for good coaches to teach out of a player of William's caliber, especially since a big reason he holds onto the ball too long in college is because he's usually able to get away with it because of how good he is.

The rumor is fairly old and has solid sources from all over college football and the NFL.

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
