REPORT: Josina Anderson "Panthers have had discussions about acquiring very notable WR"

I think the Panthers should just roll with what they have. We’re not a playoff team as currently constructed. Any acquisition will mean giving up valuable draft capital that we could probably ill-afford to lose. Trading away future assets is what’s gotten us into this mess.

Public desperation means higher asking price. And pretty much any receiver we could be looking at is going to be hesitant at best to play for this franchise. There's no in season fix here. We shouldn't be letting incompetent Scott Fitterer waste anymore resources.

Best WR in the league can help a young QB out regardless of the line situation. Look at the Bengals drafting Chase over an offensive lineman and then having immediate success and two deep playoff runs.

The only "notable WR" that could even be a realistic target for us is Higgins, anyone else and it's just internal discussions that won't go anywhere.

Adams is unhappy losing, he wouldn't be okay coming here, Jeudy isn't good enough to be a "very notable WR", I know we asked about Watson but GB isn't trading him, Hollywood will cost us too much for someone who is a FA after the season (and also isn't likely "very notable").

Unless we're talking to someone completely unexpected (like the Watson interest was) then I can't imagine this being anything more than the team internally wanting to go after someone who we either don't have the ammo to get or isn't a realistic trade target for us anyways.

This season is no longer about trying to contend, it has 1 goal and only 1 goal, to expedite Bryce's development.

I'm good with overpaying to get a WR to help with that, but it has to be someone who is young, can be kept long term, and most importantly WANTS to be here.  We can't get stuck with a diva WR who is unhappy with losing and it spreading like a cancer to the rest of the team, particularly the offense and Bryce.

I agree, but how many young WRs, assuming they are a WR1 or have WR1 potential, are really out there?

I don't know if they've talked to Detroit or Houston, but I like the thought of Jameson Williams and John Metchie with Young back together again.

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
