Panthers have blocked Jaguars’ request to interview DC Ejiro Evero for Jacksonville’s coordinator job; plan to interview him for HC job.

My only question why is he still getting interviewed for DC jobs?

I mean what more does he have to prove on defense. This man should be a HC if not with us definitely for someone else. He was the only bright spot on the team. Our defense somehow was top 5. Evero is HIM!

literal skill issue -- not his fault

So does this mean our offensive coordinator was actually really good but just lacked skill players? Bryce young held him back?  A great d coordinator finds ways of creating pressure.  With all that said not alot of teams passed alot against the panthers b/c if they scored a td they could just run the ball and the clock the rest of the game b/c the offense was terrible.  Not alot of obvious passing situations that would allow the defense to bring the pressure

He's still relatively inexperienced.

The Jags want to interview him for DC as they probably figure our new GM and HC will clean house.

Teams did not have to try to score very often on us they would score quickly then run the ball alot to run the clock down.  If an opposing team scored 10 points the rest of the game they could sit on the lead and just burn the clock.  I cant remember them coming up with many goal line stops or big 4th down stops or a ton of takeaways.

Most new hires are inexperienced. Unless you just recycling old HCs.

Rivera had 7 years of DC experience before being hired as a head coach.  Evero has had 2.    It would be foolish to make a guy with 2 years experience as a co ordinator a head coach.  But that won't matter to Tepper or a bunch of folks on this board.

I dunno. n The Panthers averaged about 14 points per game.  Any coach would play us conservatively to keep from beating themselves.  I am not sure our D saw an offense that was much more than vanilla.  If I were coaching, I would use the Panther game to set up the following week's game.  For example, I'd run a double reverse 3 times, then next week, a double reverse, flea flicker pass-I know that our offense faced an unbridled, 8 in the box defense that was not worried about getting beat deep.  Stunts, blitzes, etc. vs. our terrible guards, unopen WRs, below average TEs, and rookie/miniature QB.

Having an offense this terrible lets the defense look alot better than it really is.  Teams can sit on a small lead and play it conservatively b/c they know no chance the panthers score. I look at it as more everytime the panthers terrible offense actually put up decent points the defense still allowed the opposing offense to put up more .

Opposing offenses generally get more possessions and time of possession.

OK I've had time to think about this. The Panthers were well within their rights to decline the Jags, as that was a lateral move. So, it was probably smart, as they can keep him tied up until he leaves as an HC, or until we work out whether or not he's going to be here under the new administration. The Panthers cannot stop Ejiro from interviewing as an HC.

This logic is flawed.  We had the 4th best defense in the league in scoring D in the 1st quarter, allowing barely over a field goal. If you were right, we'd be worst in the 1st. We weren't... We were worst as a game went on and we lost field position battle, because teams would eventually just start at mid field lol.

Plus... Another issue is that our offense scored among the most points for other teams of any team and our defensive starting field position was among the worst... We had a very good 3rd down rate on D, low yards per play.

Now our rushing D was atrocious for sure. But we didn't have the pieces for Evero's D and had a TON of injuries.  It's why I don't think this is a great defense but think he did a good job as a coordinator despite that.
