Has anyone here ever met David Tepper in person?

he seems to be, from a distance, no more of a douche than most of my friends--cocky and full of crap.  The difference may be that people don't call him out.  I used to abuse my buddies when they started to get out of line--and they returned the favor often.

I've had a ton of interactions, all really cool to basic hellos. I've joked with him, talked music, I had to hold his phone while he did an interview, he once came behind me (while I was working) and rubbed my head to simply saying hello in passing, etc. I've never had a bad interaction with him and Nicole is amazing, always saying hello, giving hugs, just a genuinely nice person. I believe Mr. Tepper is super smart, knows what he wants and is struggling to get there (not all his fault - players play and coaches coach too). Football is not basic business. The ebb and flow of a game, the ref calls, the way the football bounces, to injuries, etc all play into winning and losing. It's not just the owner but all eyes are on him everyday. Unfortunately, people judge and have opinions, right or wrong. I really believe he just wants to win and be a hero to the city. I am a fan of the Teppers, even if it's not the popular opinion.

I was talking with someone recently that had gotten to know the Teppers working in the hospitality industry and she confirmed everything you said. Genuinely nice people, wouldn’t know he was a billionaire if you just met him or didn’t know who he was. Says Dave can come a bit unrefined at times but overall positive interactions.

And I agree with you and Cmc2k 100% - they certainly made some missteps but they genuinely want to win. The moves he’s made this offseason- from the front office overhaul and player acquisitions in free agency and the draft - pretty much demonstrates that. Only time will tell if it translates to success on the field but it’s an encouraging start.

I think some evolve past it, but admit I struggle to cite a recent example.

I'm sure some do but then why would we hear about it if it was true? I gave the examples of Bezos' and Gates' exes. They both are giving chunks away and living beyond comfortably. They also were not the driving factor in that wealth being made (not to make light of any contributions they made in those mirages because I literally don't want to know the deets).

I know many people do not like Tepper, but we can at least appreciate the fact that he does truly want to win, and he isn't afraid to open up the checkbook to try and make it happen. I believe that once this team starts having some success and he's able to start interacting with the fans like he was pre 2018 cam shoulder falling apart then his image will change for the better.

That’s my stance. No matter how many douchy things he does (oh noes he threw a drink at someone who was being an asshole 🙄), the bottom line is unlike the last guy he cares about winning and will do whatever he can to facilitate that. He might not always be right, but (also unlike the last guy) he’s willing to admit his mistakes and move on even if it’s costly to do so.

I mean let's all be honest who hasn't wanted to throw a beer on a falcon or a saint's fan at least once? I can tell you that if I was a billionaire I'd definitely let my intrusive thoughts of throwing a beer on an opposing team's fan get the better of me.

He doubled down on Bryce Young.

He doesn't want to win, he wants to be proven right.

I think that test will come, if it does, after this season.

He pretty much has to buy in to the crappy WRs and buy into it is fixed, and buy into the OL is fixed (which I kind of buy into) and there will be a strong running game... to give his S2 driven selection the tools to succeed.

There is a decent chance Young isn't the answer but you can't move on from the #1 pick after one season in that situation.   That would be ridiculous.  I also wouldn't say that's a decision he makes right now anyways.   There are plenty of people in the front office who would make that call instead of him.  Could he make it?  Sure, but hopefully he's not controlling our roster.

i heard he lived in BigKats building, and they chat every day in the elevator

No but Coach Canales bought in the same building I just bought into. He currently has assistant coaches living there and his family plans to move into it during the season until their home finishes.

“Doubling down” would be giving him a new contract when the time comes. Giving him a second year isn’t doubling down, it’s not being stupid. Even I, who always wanted Stroud and see nothing of value in Bryce, still want Bryce to get another shot this year. Worst case scenario is also the best case scenario: he gets us a high enough pick to take his replacement.

The trade up was basically a double or nothing bet on whoever was selected.  They're just riding it out this year which is the best move.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
