The Panthers have a true magician on the team

Ian has been with 3 coaches now and woos all of them during the summer but bro disappears like a true magician the seconds pads go on in September.

ESPN’s David Newton said Ian Thomas has “stolen the spotlight” at tight end during Panthers’ OTAs and minicamp.
Rookie fourth-rounder Ja’Tavion Sanders was expected to be the Panthers tight end who would impress in the passing game. While that still may happen, Newton writes that in head coach Dave Canales’ “tight-end-friendly scheme [Thomas] has become a big target” at the position. The Panthers rank dead last in the league in tight end targets over the last four seasons, and Thomas hasn’t gone for more than 197 yards since posting a line of 36-333-2 as a rookie back in 2018. We’ll take this one with a grain of salt, but it’s possible the seven-year vet is the preferred tight end for the Panthers in 2024 if his strong offseason carries into training camp.

This is going to be the Seventh year with this guy...SEVEN!!

All I'll say is he better not be positioned in front of Sanders and Tremble.  This is a prove-it year for Tommy and the first 2 are big for TEs where Sanders will need exposure.  Sanders has real receiving talent so he just needs to be out there.

I mean, we're near the end of Thomas' second contract and he'll be 30 before you know it.  So all in all, this is getting ridiculous at this point.  You know what you're getting with him.

He's been ineffective here for almost twice the average NFL career length. And this guy at best has been barely outcompeting Steven Sullivan and Giovanni Ricci for 30 target type seasons and a 18-180-1 td type line.

I think this would be pretty jilting for the fanbase after you've been hyping up a 3rd round investment (who's been steadily improving) in Tremble and a fresh investment in Sanders with strong receiving potential.

There is no clear benefit in playing Ian Thomas, but man, this guy must give off great vibes in camp.

Forgive me!  4 coaches!  Every offseason he looks like Tony Gonzalez out there but once the pads go on… dude vanishes like the fart.

Haven’t we heard this very thing every offseason. Then the season starts and he disappears.

Often times “stole the show” just means he sucks but sucks less than everyone else.

    • Just going off the draft sims and he's always sitting around 20 lol. First year in a while where we haven't been thinking about the draft already in late October so haven't really looked into the top 15-20 picks yet. Also the qb class is super weak so he probably will sneak up into 10-15
    • I fully expect them to pick up his 5th year , and they're waiting for him to put a full excellent consistent season of QB play in year 4 or 5. If that don't happen,  they'll eventually cut ties.  Here's to hoping he just goes on a team in 2026. The worst thing he could do is continue to see-saw us to around .500 records because it might be impossible to replace him at that point unless youre willing to do the veteran qb carousel poo we did from 2019 to 2023.
    • What do you think of Bryce Youngs career thus far? Are you excited about his progress or is it not enough for you? I included a poll of ranking his performance through 3 years thus far.  I personally think he's made some decent progress. Has had some high moments (last half of 2024, Rams game, ATL game in 2025)  but in my mind, those are still outweighed by the many more lowlights thus far (ex turnovers, missed throws, poor decisions)  It's a very mixed bag for me. He's done enough to get a 5th year option but by no means should we lock him in with a 50+ mil a year multi year deal. I want to see him play consistently well for a full year before that happens (yes, I'm still saying that going into year 4. That might be telling).  Just sucks when you see CJ Stroud, Jayden Daniel's, Caleb Williams almost immediately lighting poo up with their arm talent. Maybe Bryce is just an ultra slow burn. I don't know what to think anymore. Guess we're gonna be stuck with him for a whilr unless we end up being bad enough to earn a high pick next year. I doubted it lol. Overall Stats for his career:       ● 14 W - 30L (regular season)       ● 0-1 playoffs record        ● 61.4% completion, 8291 passing yards, 49 TDs, 30 INTs  Year 1:       ● 2 wins, 14 losses      ● 60% completion rate, 2877 passing yards, 11 TD to 10 INTs, 5.5 yards per attempted pass Year 2:        ● 4 wins , 8 losses        ● 60.9% completion rate,  2403 passing yards, 15 TD, 9 INTs,  6.3 yards per attempted pass  Year 3:        ● 8 Wins, 8 Losses         ● 63.6% competition rate, 3011 passing yards, 23 TDs to 11 INTs  Playoffs         ● 1 game in year 3 ( 0 - 1 in playoffs)         ● 21/40 (52.5% completion rate), 264 passing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.
