Albert Breer in SI: Benching Bryce Young Was Not a Rash Decision

Sounds like an excuse to me. I don't buy this concept. Getting hit the way he did only accelerated and amplified what was already lacking.

Truly there is no excuse for him to look like the worst starting QB in the entire league after a full offseason of preparation.

Carr carr'ed himself. 7 step drops and poor mechanics were worse to him than that bad oline. He was shot when he threw that first pass for a pick. You could see it on his face. No hit needed. It's a bad take and such a cope out.

Pretty much looked exactly like his INT from this Sunday. When he "throws with anticipation" this is usually the result. He's not reading the coverage correctly and he doesn't have the arm strength to squeeze the ball into tight spots to begin with. Combine the two and it's an abrupt change of possession.

don't draft children to play a man's game

Young found out in the Atlanta game that he has no business in the NFL. His goal ever since has been survival and to not suffer a life changing injury by a man who outweighs him by 150 lbs. We drafted a project, but the talking heads who crowned him have to save face so coming up with an excuse for failure is paramount.

Since the 1st quarter of his 1st game he's looked like this.  The excuses for this kid are ridiculous and completely out of control.

Was it really though? The most physically limited QB of his draft class is looking like one of the worst QB's in recent memory? Seems like something many people should have seen coming.

Probably the most physically limited QB I can ever recall being drafted in the 1st and probably even 2nd or 3rd rounds if I'm being honest. Forget #1 overall, forget 1st round. I honestly can't recall another QB with every physical red flag a QB can possibly have getting drafted even moderately highly. He's basically Stetson Bennett with a weaker arm.

But without the alcohol or drug problems

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
