Would you trade for Justin Fields?

No one is "magical." Some QB's are never going to make it no matter their coaching situation.

Exactly. There are only 32 starting QBs in the league. How many colleges are there? lol. Not everyone is cut out to start in the league or even be a backup.

Why he is a good athlete terrible qb.  He did terrible with rhe bears they ditched him for a rookie qb who is way outperforming him.  He was givin every chance with steelers and is now benched for russel wilson.   I would rather any rookie

I mean, you do have to acknowledge the stark difference in situations/talent that Caleb Williams finds himself in vs what Fields did.

Fields has great talent around him to succeed out of the gate.  Fields didn't.

Andy Dalton in his entire, long, career....only had 1 season where he threw more INTs than TDs.  That was the team Fields found himself in.

The Bears read both books.  How to ruin a QB and how to set a QB up for success.  Tried both.

I would take Fields as a backup if I didn't have to give up much for him. I think he has earned and could be a legit backup in the league behind a very durable starting QB who doesn't miss a ton of games.  That's no knock of Fields as I think Russel Wilson is done and feel like at this point Fields will take the job back from Wilson before seasons out. Of course I'm biased because Russel Wilson gives me the creeps with his extreme level of awkwardness and just plain weirdness. He is about as fake as they get and apparently a master at convincing others that he still has anything left. In Seattle I don't know if it was his skill or guys like Tyler Lockett who didn't get enough credit for coming down with his hail Marys he would just randomly throw up.

We are at a point now where we have/need a stopgap at the QB position. I think unless there is some Delhomme lightening in a bottle situation, anyone you get is gonna have limitations. Can’t do anything stupid just because the name still resonates. From an all around QB perspective is Fields gonna be better than Dalton? I don’t know and don’t want to open the wallet too wide to find out.

Funny because Delhomme was very average, had a lot of limitations, pedestrian stats (threw a lot of INTs), but was just clutch in most games except that Arizona debacle in 2008.   I'm afraid we keep looking for a perfect specimen we'll be stuck.

Fields has a lot of redeemable qualities, he can become a better passer.  I don't believe that people can't learn to see the field or read defenses better.  But you can't teach size, speed, arm strength and athleticism.

Darnold has certainly learned to read the field better. You just have to build around your QB once you are confident in him.

    • Unless the league decides to rollback the rule book 30 years, that player at QB isn't winning any Super Bowls.  QB has to elevate those around him.  QBs that are carried by the team are always exposed in the playoffs. Closest thing to an average QB that has won the SB recently is Jalen Hurts.  But he's so unique with his legs and the unstoppable tush push that I don't think it's easy to compare him to anyone.  Certainly not someone who is subbed out for QB sneaks.
    • You absolutely can have hope. You can’t convert people though; making advocacy posts are kind of … not reading the room.   I had a small hope that he would be able to at least manage some games and that they could make it work in some kind of no fun to watch fashion.  But honestly I had 100% determined he was not NFL starter material, and I had conviction. So to root for him to marginally succeed goes against the best interest of the Panthers long term, according to my beliefs. I wanted him gone the minute he got here if I am honest. It was up to him to prove otherwise.  He has rarely shown me anything to think I was wrong on his ceiling.  He did show me some courage last year, standing in the pocket and stepping into his throw in the face of pressure - but that has gone somewhere. He made some nice throws last year in places too, but they invested in him on the level of the Atlanta game should be his norm. Good luck seeing that again on Sunday. Still, he did it once, so technically it could happen again.
    • Damn that was a longer post than I intended, Maybe I should have started a new thread.
