so if dalton cannot play why is he the backup and not plummer?

Here is my conspiracy theory.  I think Canales is looking out for himself and using this as a window to protect himself/Dalton....and throwing Bryce to the wolves intentionally.

Dalton/Canales have looked like dogpoo the last couple weeks.  Now he has an excuse out of precaution...and can throw Bryce out there in a nasty Denver matchup and save him and Dalton some face.  I think Canales is feeling some heat.  Think he would much rather get dragged with Bryce than Dalton this week.  Simple as that. And he has the safety route to claim.   Hope to get Dalton and himself back to looking respectable the next 2 vs a now struggling Saints/Giants tandem of games.

Not reading 6 pages of witty yet appropriate anti-Bryce one liners--so excuse me if this is this thread, but am I being biased or skeptical when I question how one sprains a thumb in a car accident?  Never heard of that happening.  It sounds like they want to start him again to see how he is fermenting, but without a reason, it makes them look wishy washy.  Who's with me!!!!???

Maybe he was giving his wife an oil check when the accident happened?

Oh tell me you haven't gotten freaking on a car ride!

I refuse to be judgmental on what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own car.  I just hope they were both wearing seat belts and practicing safe… uh… driving.

My guess is he hand his hand wrapped around the steering wheel and braced for impact on said wheel, and the jolt forward with his thumb around the wheel got sprained?

You must be referring to Bo Nix here

Nope. Let me explain a bit more...

I would love to see Bryce completely ball out and look like a reasonable young QB during the game. Something with no mistakes and some scores. That way his stock as trade material goes up and we might get some interest out of other teams in trading for him.

Because let's face it, whether he can actually ever do the job or not, the whole Bryce and the Panthers thing is already soured. The fan base isn't behind him, the coaches aren't behind him and his offensive players can't be too much behind him after seeing what a pedestrian Andy Dalton can do in comparison.

So, the best possible scenario is the Bryce does enough to get some attention elsewhere, but not enough to change Tepper's current opinion of him. Bryce moves on, gets a better shot at a career and we move on with a little bit of currency in the coming or following drafts.

    • Lol. The Texans are literally one of Bryce's six career NFL wins. WTF are you talking about?
    • Yeah, I mean it is a statistical fact and also part of literally a player evaluation. Winston has literally lost dozens of games in his NFL career due to crippling TO's. It's just who he is. Look, it's fun when those insane throws work and he is leading you back from some crazy deficit. But those success are rare. It's why his career GWD count is so low. He's fun but he is fundamentally built to lose games.  If you are talking about a backup QB, you are literally already losing in the first place. That's how you see a backup QB and that's overwhelmingly what they tend to do. Rookie QB's almost always benefit from veteran QB's. Same as literally any other position in the NFL. Why do you think that you so often hear that from the playera themselves? As for Bryce NEEDING one, no he sure as poo shouldn't this late in the game. But he also shouldn't have needed this fuging long to get his fuging footwork straightened out either. Yet here we are.
    • Comfortability is the primary reason. They don't want to hurt Bryce's confidence. But I say if his confidence is that fragile that healthy competition which makes everyone better is enough for them to keep making Andy Dalton rich then Bryce was never going to be the guy anyway. Give me the QB who sees the competition amongst his peers and uses it to take it to the next level. Instead we get the guy who comes out looking like a deer in the headlights against the Texans after we've done everything possible to appease him. Definition of complacency.
