How did they mess up so bad with Mayfield and Darnold,

Baker was never that bad and Darnold is literally in a perfect situation for him. A lot of people have been saying Darnold needs a perfect situation to be successful and he has it.
That is so why teams need to be very wary of signing Darnold to a big contract. Because whatever team signs him won’t be a perfect situation anymore.
Vikings offense has made it so easy for him and that defense has been able to make up for any mistakes, think bad INTs, that he makes.

Tepper is like the average Panther’s fan. If a QB isn’t immediately an all-pro hall of famer, he wants to move on.

Football is the ultimate team sport. The team has to be good for the QB to be good and vise-versa. There are very very few exceptions.

Darnold never would have been good here because the team is still bad.

Baker is mainly the same guy. He always had prerequisite talent and intangibles and had played at a highish level before but he was just a cocky asshat who got humbled harshly here. But he is still hot and cold at best and we've seen that firsthand.

Darnold is a bit different he's taken a big step forward that I wasn't sure he ever would. He got humbled here too for sure. And then he got sent packing from the 49ers. Clearly something has clicked after all that. But he's also playing in a situation that has high end talent and coaching. I do not think he would have ever been that here.

Anywho I'm not for looking in the rear view anymore. What's already done is done. We need to keep developing our core and bring in another young QB to develop in the offseason and build up the rest of the roster.

Bad coaching which leads to bad choices. Rhule wasn't cut out for it and did not give Brady two things : time to develop as an OC and an environment that had enough structure/experience around him to guide. Then it was all desperation by the time Baker got here and that never goes well in the NFL.  Fitt and Reich did not spot the improvement from Darnold. If you watched his last few games, he was stepping up in the pocket and making good throws while under pressure. He would have been a bridge for us either way, we were taking a QB. Did he even want to be a part of that?

    • You would hope so. I’m confused why the sports world seems split on Bryce when he’s obviously not working out.
    • So let’s do the reverse? Make everyone agree everything he does is a disaster? I also think the whole “gaslighting” is on the eye of the beholder. It went from he can’t avoid one single sack countered with he actually did that well Sunday (with data backing it) to a little breakdown of why he is so bad. People are going to have different opinions. I’m also not going to pretend this wasn’t happening Day one with this little QB.
    • All this great stuff he has done, how often does he do it?  I have it at three or four games out of 14 where he was very good and then you get a drive here or a series there where there are some good things. Here is the gaslight part: everyone has put him on a curve with his first year the baseline, neglecting to understand how bad he was then. Even if he comes back twice as good, where does that really leave him? 25th ranked or thereabouts.     He had so far to go, and still does, it is a Major ‘settle’ to accept his play as worthy of giving him our future.  You want to settle when the Bucs have Mayfield, and the Saints have overtaken us at QB? We will be third in the division at QB. That is good enough for y’all?
