This has got to be worst coaching cycle in years

Patriots- Vrabel: Really thought they would go outside the box here and go after Johnson or somebody different-thought wrong. Instead they replaced their coach with who they wanted the last coach to be.

Raiders- Carroll: Only way this works is if the plan is for his successor to be on the staff and mentor him the next 1-2 years. He will be 74 when the regular season gets here. He was .500 head coach at best his last few years in Seattle with John Schneider stacking his roster.

Bears- Johnson: Holy hell did this guy blow his future. He turned down all these teams to coach Caleb Williams and the Bears. FYI, the Bears have a worst record than us the last 10 seasons. And he gets to play against 3 playoff contenders in his division twice each a year.

Jaguars-Coen: Might be the best hire of this cycle. However, he has almost no experience. Dave Canales has more NFL consistency than him. He seems to bounce to and from college often.

Jets-Glenn: Good luck to him dealing with Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson everyday. Their roster is horrible and full of more JAGs than ours. They are selling this feel good story about him being drafted by the Jets but it’s putting off real Frank Reich in Carolina vibes. I bet he doesn’t last the season.

Cowboys-?: Jones is interviewing his current OC and Former OC. So yeah whatever comes out of that.

Saints-?: They don’t know, they are interviewing everyone. You can probably get an interview too if you fill out an application. My guess is Joe Brady or Mike McCarthy. However, they may just promote the interim guy since (just like New England) they can’t let “their guys” go.

We'll see how it plays out on the field. A lot of folks probably thought the Patriots were crazy to hire some guy that got fired by the damn Browns of all places and Rhule was one of the hot names on the market when we hired him. Hype means poo. It's all about Ws and LS.

Rhule being a hot candidate back then just goes to show how NFL professionals get caught up in hype trains just like everyone else can. Blech.

Rhule was a weird hype train to watch. He hadn't beaten anyone in college to warrant a ride on that train.

It's what I was raising alarms bells about at the time. The guy had never beaten a ranked team and his offenses were always very mediocre. I just didn't get why the guy was suddenly a hot NFL candidate. He'd turned around two floundering college programs. Okay, cool. So maybe he's ready for a big time college job. But NFL? I just didn't see the justification for the sudden hype.

Had to be the meatballs.

I somehow always pictured the interview with Tepper like this

While McCarthy isn’t a very exciting guy, I think he was the best option for the Bears by far. They needed an experienced offensive HC, used to a somewhat messy situation. There is a lot that needs to get done in Chicago that goes way beyond just good play calling.

    • I would say that seems like an odd comment from Morgan, but at the same time it's almost impossible to find a college QB declaring for the draft to have less physical ability than BY so you can assume almost anyone you bring in would be your go to QB sneak/designed run guy.
    • Gronk is the best TE of all time, but he also played with Brady. Clarke was great, but had Peyton and in an era TE's didn't make crazy money. Kittle is great, but the two times he's made the SB, he was still on his rookie contract for one, and the other the 49ers had Purdy on a cheap rookie deal which help them build the rest of the roster. So again, it's not about not wanting an elite TE, of course it would be nice.  But realistically, in today's NFL, unless that elite TE with a top end TE salary is on a team with a GOAT level QB and/or other serious cap savings (i.e. key players on rookie deals), then I think it's not a good use of cap space.
    • This place was the poo pre tepper with tons of hilarious posters like phillyB. Joined in the 2000s during the 07 season and have been here bitching about this team since. but yeah its sadly been dying a slow death, every time I come to this site I am surprised its still up. I think the 2015 season was the absolute peak, the Panthers and this board especially just haven't "felt" the same since then. Igo should really sell the board since he clearly doesn't care anymore. Also, Reddit blows and the Bryce defenders on there need Jesus.
