As of today, who would you draft at number 8?

Let's hear it - who would y'all draft at number 8 assuming we couldn't trade back for good value and the following players are guaranteed gone: ward, Carter, hunter, Graham.

It will probably sound crazy, but I would like it if we drafted jihaad Campbell. I think this guy will be an elite linebacker that can stop the run, cover most running backs and tight ends, and be solid at the pass rush. I feel like he is a much safer pick than most of the edge guys projected to us. I'm also not sold on Tet and don't want to waste the top 10 pick on a tight end unless Brock Bowers magically reappeared in this draft

I'll be surprised if he isn't taken in the early 10s at the latest. Guy gives me Luke vibes in the fact that he can pretty much do it all. If he is as smart as Luke and can figure out other teams plays before they call it themselves, then I will cry happy tears if we draft him

I'd probably take Jalon Walker. I'm going to try him as an edge with a backup plan of making him an off the ball LB. I'm not certain which role he'll ultimately play but I do think he's gonna be a player. 

I like T-Mac but I think he probably projects as "good" more than great. I like Warren a lot but I don't think he's Brock. I like Starks but I'm not sold on him being an elite safety. I wouldn't be mad about picking any of the three though.

The guy I don't want is Shemar Stewart but if we draft him I'll just hope I'm wrong and he proves to be great.

Our defense needs playmakers

Two of our biggest needs are linebacker and EDGE 

Josey Jewell is decent but he's 30 and will have no guaranteed money on his contract after this season and Trevin Wallace was thrown into the fire after Shaq Thompson injury and was not ready to be a starter. 

Jadeveon Clowney and DJ Wonnum are actually a decent pair but both will be a free agent after 2025 season.

Jalon Walker is an off-ball linebacker who can rush off the edge, exactly the things the Panthers defense is in dire need of. This guy can be our new Frankie Luvu

Trade Down is my No.1 option to get more picks but if staying at 8, Id look offense. Since we used a lot of capital on defense, in free agency Id give Bryce his Greg Olsen in TE Tyler Warren or take Marcus Golden  We can use our day 2 pick on DEs etc. 

My Do NOT Draft guy is Tet. He is a faster Dewayne Jarret but softer.

Walker is my realistic pick at 8.  Can’t get excited about anyone else. Would be disappointed if we ended up with the WR CB or TE and think the edges are a bit of a reach.

While I like Walker he scares me because of his tweeter size.  I know he screams baller on tape, but I’m not a fan of his size for the edge. My 1st option would be a trade back. If we traded back to 12 to 15 and picked up an early 2nd to go with pick 57 I would go with BPA. 

In the 12 to 15 range I would not be afraid to go safety Malaki Starks, Nick Emmanwori  or  even TE Tyler Warren as our 1st round pick but in that range I really just want BPA

 

I may be in the minority, but if we could not trade back with decent value I want prototypical size at 8 for our Edge pick. Give me James Pierce Jr.

Defense. We are so deficient on that side of the ball. You have a strong defense, you can muddle up games and grind things out and punch above your weight class a little bit. I am fine with Walker or Graham. If it is offense, Warren or a tackle.
