Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8

JPJ and Walker could be a nice combo, but I feel like you can just run on them?  They both are weak against the run IMO.

They’re operating like an HC and GM duo that knows it’s playoffs or out of a job next year. And they don’t give a fug if they fug over their successors in the process

I think there's a lot of truth in what you said.

Man the panthers really hate speedy guys with hands who can run routes and stretch the field. Their obsession with big slow receiver ‘jump up specialists’ is why they haven’t had more than one receiver consistently  worth a damn in their entire history, and he was an accident.

Really don’t like the pick. Looks like opposing defenses will continue to defend 10-15 yards and succeed.

And we have no clue if Penix will work or not yet. Even if he’s below average they could be in an awful spot this time next year. I would not want to be them right now. They’re making a serious serious gamble.

I'm here for it!  I hope it blows up in their faces.

My view about taking TMac.

1.  He is the only WR in this draft class that is referred to (based on my research) as a No. 1 WR.  If you asked a Panther fan what the Panthers needed at WR, they would say, "No. 1, X WR." The Panthers hoped XL would step into that role, but as a #2, he should find more success.  TMac should struggle at times next year, but with AT, XL, and Coker--there will be less pressure on him.

2.  One site compared him to Tee Higgins.  The Panthers were rumored to be interested in Tee Higgins in free agency.

3. Other teams (Dallas, LA Rams) wanted TMac.  When the Panthers took TMac, Micah Parsons got upset on a podcast and it was reported that the Rams tried to trade up.  Now, consider that we wanted to move back and were going to give a discount to trade back, it is odd that they (probably) turned down trade up offers.

4.  Vegas odds (Fan Duel) predicted that TMac was going to be the pick at 8 (odds shifted).  What did they know?

I don't think any fanbase is completely happy with their teams draft picks this morning. It's just that kind of draft.

I'd be doing backflips if I were Cleveland right now. Huge haul of picks and still land Mason Graham. The Ravens getting Starks at 27 is also pretty nuts.

Didn't see that coming at all. Wow.

I think I actually like this selection better than selecting a tweener pass rusher in Jaylon Walker.

They picked the top WR in the draft when we have an underwhelming WR room. It's hard to blame them but it's going to make repairing the defense much harder I think.

Walker was a top 5 athletic in this draft but our scheme IMO wasn't a good fit. We may regret passing on him.

T-Mac as three years of performance and it stands out. I think he opens up the rest of our receiving room. I expect XL and Coker to make big strides in 2025.

I've seen grades of A to C on T-Mac, so it just depends on how you feel.

We have to focus on defense on the next 3 or 4 pick. Our round 4 and 5 picks are high picks in that round.

Let's hope Dan and Dave get those picks right.

settle down.  If you were expecting a lot more than 6 wins that is on you.  Most people thought 6-7 and improved QB play would be a success for our new coaching staff.

Again where are you seeing TMac at WR6 in last year's draft?  I'm still waiting for this....

We only won 5 games I think is what he’s trolling you about

you keep going on and on and on and on about his separation when every report on him cites his lack of separation as a negative going into the draft.  Any amateur nfl scout can pull up the tape and see he is not a quick wr and struggles with press coverage.  Quit pissing on our leg and telling us its raining we have fuging eyes

I keep going on and on and on about his separation?

I challenge you to go find one post I've ever made that says he's some elite separator, but here's a little tip, you won't find it, because I've never once said it.  I've defended my guy to the death on here, but I've never once tried to lie about who he is as a player, I've recognized his faults and where he needs to improve, because I can look at who a player is without bias.

I've said he's better than some give him credit for on here, but I've also said NUMEROUS times that it's one of the areas he does need to improve upon (like every prospect at this point in their career has things to get better at).

    • I think the book has been fairly written on Darnold, and by and large stays true. He can be rattled by pressure, and will lose his composure. If a team can get to him and have something go wrong in the plan, the mistakes and errors will pile up. Rams have a better offense, Seahawks sport a better defense. Should be a good 1.
    • Not a defense of him...an understanding of the problem. (something you seem to be lacking right now) 🙄 Bryce in a Canales offense is not an example of a stylistic mismatch, but I can give you one if that helps. When he was playing for the Panthers, Cam Newton sat under OC's running Coryell type offenses. Newton had a big arm and was a strong runner. He fit into that sort of attack very well. Then he goes to New England, where at the time they were running an Earhardt-Perkins system (similar to WCO In a lot of what they do but very different terminology). The Patriot offenses back then were heavily based on timing and rhythm style passing, not something that Newton was especially well suited for. So he washed out at New England, not because he had poor ability (his abilities had been on display here on a regular basis) but because he didn't fit what they wanted to do with their offense. I always go back to Jeff Garcia as one of the prime examples of this issue. Garcia in a WCO looked like a world beater. Put him in any other scheme though...yikes!  So again, Young's issues here have nothing to do with any failure to mesh with Canales. Hell, is say Canales has actually done pretty well at adapting his system to who he has rather than trying to jam square pegs into round holes. Again, it doesn't take an elite level of football knowledge to get this. It's pretty basic. But if you're not even capable of understanding what the real problem is, how are you going to know you to find the right solution? 🤔
