I think it's the only way to pick up an extra second in this week draft. Like going from 8 to the very late 20's to the early 30's probably gets you a second plus a fourth or if into the 2nd, two 2's plus a fourth and 6th.

For me I'm not at all against more assets. In fact I'm in favor of it given our needs. Where the issue and the disconnect from some of my fellow fans begins is the fact that it is Dan Morgan navigating this draft. Right now I'm not convinced Dan Morgan couldn't ruin a wet dream if given the chance. He is too Fittereresque. And he's got the same scouts in his ear that Scott did.

He got too cute in last years draft. We can't afford a repeat.

If anyone is interested below is a good discussion of the 2024 draft and covers why many people here are not enamored with Morgan likely being trade happy once again. If he didn't learn anything from last year we're toast.

Oh I don't want them to trade down. I still think that they take Walker if he's there.

The Panthers picked # 32 last year. If we trade back, that will be another year of a mid to late 1st round pick. We’ve consistently been one of the worst teams in the NFL for quite a while. I don’t think it’s unfair to say that some of us just want to see this struggling franchise have a high draft pick for once. Trading back and picking where playoff teams are at is a kick in the nuts. It’s nice to feel rewarded for your crappy season.

Too many of you:

If we pick at 8, whoever it is, it's the wrong pick.

If we trade down, we got "fleeced," regardless of compensation

This is year 2 of the rebuild. I'm going to enjoy it until proven otherwise.

Bingo all the shhhttt stops right there we may get Fleeced in a sense because of what we typically expect to get in return for trading back in the first. But I’m here to say f the norm this is about assembling more talent to a team whose potential is extremely high. It’s about maneuvering around especially in rounds 1-3 to get players who will help us this year. The opportunity to add a few strong pieces on defense is what’s needed to really contend next season.

Just depends how devalued the trade would potentially be.

True but I think people heard at a discount and ran with it. 6 teams in the top 10 are wanting to trade back. I think we mentioned ours could be had at a discount to get some conversations started. We should still get decent value despite the top 10 sucking outside of a couple players.

Except the high picks this year are almost all mid to late picks in most drafts. Ward is what QB4 last year? Hunter and Graham seem solid, but outside of that the LSU OT might be an OG, Jeanty played in a weak division and isn’t much better than Hampton, Carter looks good but only played edge one season and is weak against the run, Walker is undersized and has one year of good production, you could go on and on. We just saw us with pick 1 two drafts ago.

Ez, Noel, & Schwesinger is the haul to monitor. If we trade down, that could be a scenario we’re looking at.

I’d love this. If we could add a FS (maybe the Virginia guy) and sign Blackmon our roster would feel so much more complete.

We have a similar idea with roster aesthetic. Throw in a OL like Mbow/Trapilo, and that could be a stellar type of draft haul.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone and we have Taylor Moton inked to a recent extension. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
