For all of the people upset about Renfrow being cut, did you ever think that maybe he wanted to be cut because he would essentially be 4th or 5th on the depth chart and he wants to go where he will be able to get on the field? Just saying, we don't have all of the information.

I think Renfrow just wanted to be in and around football again.  And being home was THE selling point to comeback.   Carolina was THE pick.  Comeback only went about because a team existed in the Carolinas.  I don't think he had an illusion of being a focal part of the O.   And I think he will decline any interest elsewhere to play....

I'll bet nickel he ends up coaching football for the far and away best football team in Carolinas in the not too distant future.

I saw Hooker play several years ago and thought he would be a good QB.  Not that I am looking for a QB to replace Young but maybe Canales can QB whisper him into being a good backup.

I like Hooker. Played HS ball at Greensboro Dudley, won 2 state championships. 3rd round pick by Detroit. He probably would have been drafted higher but a knee injury sidelined him for his rookie year. Player of the year in the SEC in 2022 at Tennessee. It would be nice if he had a chance to show enough to be the back up qb going forward.

Dave Canales success or failure ultimately comes down to Bryce Young.  And the Panthers have never played a game that caters to Bryce Young.

Canales missed his window.  No way he gets time to part w/ Bryce and start his rebuild year 3 from scratch....with 2 bad years to his name.  Nothing says David Tepper would allow that.

I don't think it should be contingent on turning Bryce isn't a franchise QB. I'm skeptical of some things with Canales as well but he's a coach not a miracle worker. He can't change Bryce's physical make up. Furthermore if you fire him before giving him an opportunity to identify and acquire his own QB you are not going to get quality coaching candidates the next cycle.

what you think runs counter to what we know of David Tepper though.  That's all I am saying.  32 of these jobs in the world.  There is always someone willing to take it.  It just won't be who you want.

Panthers waive 2024 sixth-rounder DL Jaden Crumedy

This plus the AT trade make room for the recently claimed Damarri Mathis and Dalevon Campbell.

I've always been a Crumedy fan and thought he showed enough flashes to keep around and let him get more snaps.

I'm confused by the WR and RB additions. Seems like depth in other areas made more sense. Still lots of time until 9/7.

Agreed.  I'm not sure where people are getting the idea that Dan and Dave are getting a restart button if this year crashes and burns.  Should they?  Maybe just to rebuild the reputation of the org, depending on how bad it really is.  But all indications are Tepper throws them out of a helicopter before any of that.  Alright now who wants the job next?

    • Oddly feeling really good about tonight. fug the heat
    • Here are my takeaways from the conference (IMO): - Is Dan against taking a WR 3 years in a row? No. Would that be his preference? Also, no. Not by a long shot.  - I think draft gurus are wrong. Tight end is not an early priority. They like the guys in the building enough to see them develop, but a later round guy is being looked at (just seemed like he was able to label a couple of guys "talented", but stopped short of suggesting the class is good at the top. Seemed quick to talk about the depth of the class) - If we are taking a DL, it will be in the top 2 rounds. They fall off a cliff at some point soon after. - They are targeting guys in each round. I think we are more likely to move up than down in this draft to prevent missing out on a guy. He doesn't want to give up a lot though, man loves his draft picks. - DBs are a priority. We want to come away with a safety and a nickel. Maybe even a safety that can play nickel. Thieneman sounds more and more like a real possibility, if he is there. We are taking a safety in the first 2 rounds, if I had to put money on it. - Age matters more for 1st round picks, probably (Mesidor), but not for after that (Stukes). - They have a guy or two that they want in the 1st round, but crazy things DO happen in the draft, and they may shift gears and take a different guy if someone falls that they didn't expect to be there.  - Character matters. A LOT. If a guy has character concerns of any kind, you can be pretty confident they aren't on our board. They may bring in a guy or two for a visit to gauge the validity/severity of the concern though.
