Pass rushers players only meeting regarding sacks

Rookie outside linebacker Princely Umanmielen told reporters this week that the team's pass rushers got together for a players-only meeting to hash out their shortcomings in the sack column.

"We had a meeting—just us, no coaches," Umanmielen stated. "We really emphasized trying to get to the quarterback because we thought our production, as far as sacks-wise, was embarrassing. Only having two sacks in four games—we were like, 'That's unacceptable.'

"So we came together, we seen that we had to stop being so stagnant. We can't be scared. It's the NFL—quarterbacks are gonna get out of the pocket sometimes. So we can't rush air, only go power because we think the dude is gonna break the pocket. It's gonna happen. So we just let loose."

Well, they let loose on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa—who ate three sacks from the Panthers in Week 5. Along with outproducing their sack total from the previous four contests, Carolina also notched 12 pressures and held the potent Miami offense to just seven points in the second half.

If I’m not mistaken we’re near the top of the league in QB pressure.  Sacks are great but if we keep pressuring the QB at this rate the sacks will come.

I didn’t realize that. Cool. Even if the sacks are slow it is still really important to do that.

    • I can always count on yout to put things so delicately lol. I'm still not sold on the fact that Tepper will make them keep him if they don't see him as a long term answer.
    • holy poo... this thread inspired me to keep trying to guess passwords to various alts I've created over the years and I finally got in! I pretty much accepted my fate as a lurker for the last several months because I could not remember my password. I didn't realize that new users couldn't join either, that explains things. I have been around for years under several different monikers, through the good and bad. I too always find myself coming back here even with all of the new social media options for Panther fan engagement. It's simply nostalgic.   I do get extremely annoyed with the same 5-10 posters shitting on Bryce and complaining about everything. It's unfortunate that half of them are mods and that nobody new can join because now I pretty much just come on here and see Bryce / Panther slander. There is barely any positivity to be had. We all watch this team and hang on this forum for entertainment purposes only. We have no control or say in anything. I used to be such a crazy ass fan that would argue with strangers about Cam newton on the internet and at games. Now, as a father of 3, a business owner and someone with way gnarlier life problems - I like to watch football and talk about football as an escape. Not to bitch more. I really like the direction of the team and will root anyone in a Panthers jersey. I live down the street from the Rams practice facility, Matthew Stafford is currently coaching his daughters flag football team in the same program I coach my sons. I have two highly ranked Rams staff members sons on my team. The way we beat them and had them on the ropes in the playoffs has me feeling amazing, and you would think we have the next great thing in Bryce with the way they all speak of him. I'm gonna ride that high and be a delusional fan, I hope that huddle can stick around or get fixed and perhaps I will get back to posting more now that I can log in again. I will do my best to not get banned. Keep Pounding!
    • Well, if they know Tepper wants to keep Bryce there is an an implied safety net there in case he fails. A possibility that he will be empathetic and •maybe• not fire them.  If they go against that and bring in someone else and that fails they are in a much worse spot.  IMO.  And another factor may be that after all those years of instability and musical chairs pre Bryce there will likely be a feeling of security in knowing what they have.   Kind of like settling just to keep from going through the process all over again.     IOW I think he really needs to fug up bad to lose his job and change our course.
