100%  Even though Pierce is playing pretty well you simply dont give up that level of draft capital.

Eh, not totally true

The 2026 draft class as a whole was looking on the weaker side, combine that with the Falcons expecting to have a legit playoff team this year, and it did kind of make sense at the time.  They thought they were getting a great player for what they expected to be a pick in the 20's in a weak draft.

Not saying I'd have done it either, just that I do get their thinking on it that way.

Sounds like the logic of the Bryce trade.   Never get ahead of your skis.  If a gm thought penix and 2 rookie pass rushers were going to get you to the playoffs then you deserve to lose your job.   You literally handed over a top 10 maybe top 5 pick for peanuts

I mean, Penix didn't look terrible last year in his limited snaps.  And they were an 8-9 team that lost nobody of note and added a few other solid pieces before they made that trade.

I don't think it's unreasonable for them to have expected to improve this season.  There is no way they expected Penix to regress and for their season to implode as it has.

Also don't think it's anywhere near the logic of the Bryce trade, we were nowhere near as the year before that as the Falcons were last year.  We didn't have any offensive weapons close to Bijan or London.  And they only traded one future first to take a pass rusher in the 1st, not trading away the farm to bet on a prospect the team at #1 could have used but decided to trade it instead.
