We had Sam Darnold

Sam Darnold was never going to be the player he is now in Carolina under Matt Rhule.

Sam + Wilks would be a lot farther along in the rebuild. They wanted to run ball play D.

Our new offensive HC wants to run the ball play D... huh

Had to check to see what kind of material he had to work with........ yes, there was a guy called DJ something..... but that was about it.  Also, he had to run for his life.... a lot!!  (and his decision making was a "bit" iffy).  Happy for him now though.  Glad they took out the team that shouldn't have been there in the first place 😆

Yeah, I don't think Darnold would've become what he is without going to SF, but he still could've been solid here.

    • I begrudgingly accept the 5th year option only because the 5th year is not guaranteed.  We can get out after next year if he doesn’t throw down.  History says he will not demonstrate his worthiness most of the year and then near the end he will somehow do just enough to keep the flame burning.  I feel like we are really and truly stuck.

Both of these guys took 4-5 years to develop, bounce to multiple teams, and finally be placed in a great scenario for them to succeed. Structure and organization is more important than the player some times. Look what Patriots did this year, their roster was devoid of talent last year but you find the right coaching organization, add a few players in free agency and they are in the Super Bowl. These examples make me feel like we need to give Bryce more time to prove himself. If we let Bryce walk and he succeeds else where like Darnold and Baker, then it's the organization's fault and we can have Mahomes as our QB and it wouldn't even matter.
