This is a fantastic pick I don't get some of you.  Ekwonu is a complete question mark at this time and was average at best before the injury.  Moton is getting old.  Walker is on a one year deal and would have never been a FA if he was that good.  This provides flexibilty for next year and insurance for the future.

Get a defensive player in the 2nd but you can't pass on a talent like this at the position in our current situation!

He’s a true LT. it’s what he played in college.

To be fair Joe is an idiot. Started at LT for a powerhouse program all year, not really developmental

I like the pick, but only in light of what they may be saying with it. I don't think Icky is coming back this year, and maybe not ever as a tackle. Moton has a history of injuries and is getting long in the tooth. We picked up a lesser known starting LT and have him on a short contract and we have two aging, injury prone guards. There's even a shake up at Center.

What this pick tells me is that there isn't just a long term need on the line, there's an immediate one that we're not sure of. I wonder if they know of a retirement incoming before the season starts. You don't grab a lineman in the first with the idea of stashing him on the bench and developing him.

On the upside, the kid is going to tower over his opponents, is excellent in the run game and pass protection and can swing to either left or right tackle. He's also from South Carolina and played in Georgia which is going to give him a lg up on surviving the heat and humidity of training camp and our first few home games.

I wanted something else at 19, but I like the kid. He's one of our guys now, so I'll be cheering him on for sure.

I mean I get why they picked him. They obviously have a plan for the oline to get younger and less expensive. But it really feels like gaslighting trying to explain how the 5th OT off the board is BPA over the 2nd CB, the 2nd FS or the 3rd WR.

I think you’re comparing apples and pineapples here. Rankings within other positions has no bearing on the overall player ranking

It is not a given that Walker beats him out.  Walker would be a great swing T (and so would Freeling for a season--played both sides in college).

Is there some rule that says we have to draft players in the first round from the Carolinas?  

Horn, Ickey, XL, Freeling--?

After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot. 

We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job.

Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard. 

Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.

LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.

      Reasonable. I mean I didn’t see a clear path to relief this season myself. As I have typed already, I think the QB FA class is more interesting next season and that draft is supposed to be stacked as well. There just weren’t many options this year.  When you have Tepper to contend with you have to tread lightly around this unless you are 100% certain and willIng to stake your job on it.   There were a couple of outings that helped Bryce a lot in terms of  thinking maybe he can do this, and if you are a supporter you are giving them a lot of weight. You are likely to think just get him some more help and he can do that every week. Which I think Tepper falls into that category.  And the playoffs, division champs, regardless of the way I see that, the supporters will also give that a lot of weight.    And the big one, the atmosphere In BOA for that WC game, Tepper had to be soiling himself over that. If you pulled Bryce out right now you had better be right and your new guy had better make the playoffs and look good doing it or you will be gone and your chance to build your old team back into respectability will be gone too.  So here we have Pickett on a one year deal, and Grier and King. I understand it.

      Totally possible imo, I also caught that snippet from Morgan where he said “If” we sign him. The lack of competition says otherwise tho 🤷‍♂️
