Confidence Level for the 2015 Season

Me: "The Panthers are going to be really good this year."

Friend: "Don't you say that every year?"

Me: "...... um... but they are going to be really good THIS year...."

It seems like this is the common consensus among Huddlers:

  • The Panthers will have a top 5 defense
  • The Panthers will have a much better offense, top 15ish
  • The Panthers will have a much improved special teams unit
  • The Panthers will win the NFC South

I personally think this is the most confident I have ever been at this point in the offseason. I was way too confident last year. Going into the season, and even after the first two games, I was thinking we couldn't be stopped. After several blowouts, I saw the obvious holes in the O-line, secondary(as it was then), and WR core.

How does your confidence going into this season compare with past seasons? Are we being homers, or do we really know that the Panthers are going to light it up in 2015?

comparing it to the states of the other three teams in the NFC South.... I think we are in really good shape.

The Saints are having an identity crisis (are they "ground and pound?")

The Falcons have no defense, and Julio's ankles are made out of paper mache

The Bucs are breaking in a rookie QB who I personally think will be a huge bust.

So yeah. We held on to our core and strengthened some positions of need. If our O Line can gel, and Riverboat actually start out hot, then we should 3 pete the South.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The defense should be good enough to keep us in every game. The offense should be better but the offensive line could offset everything.

Best case scenario, the defense is top five and the offensive line is serviceable and we are fighting for home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

I believe the defense will be top 10.

Offense will be around 20th.

Special Teams won't be a complete train wreck.

All that adds up to another first place (maybe 9-7 or 10-6) finish in the lackluster NFC South.

That's about how I see it.

I'm guessing around 9-10 wins today, but it's May.  Injuries are always right there knocking.

I'm not so sure we'll have a top offense in terms of YPG or even PPG. Having said that, I think we'll be the best offense at doing what we want to do, TOP. Methodically moving down the field and smashing it into the end zone.

Unbiased opinion, I believe we are the 3rd best team in the NFC going into the season, but I believe were still very far away from the Packers and Seahawks. The Cowboys and Lions are at our level too, but Romo and Witten are another year older and losing Murray is going to hurt more than they seem to think. Theres no guarantee McFadden even makes it onto the field with his injury history. The Lions can score with anyone, but they just lost the anchor of their defense. You cant lose someone like Suh and expect to have no fallout, so I think they take a step back from last year. Even if we didnt make huge splashes, our secondary, OLine, and receivers are immensly improved from last season, plus Cam and Luke havent even scratched the surface in terms of their ceiling

I have confidence in the team.

While Shula is the popular concern.

Mine is more detailed.

The offense's biggest struggle from year to year, is starting fast. The oline has failed the mesh well at the bigging of seasons. There has been turnover, injuries, you name it.

If we can enter training camp knowing our starting 5, and they get through preseaso. With no injuries or set backs, i hope they start the season better than they have in the past.

Everything starts and ends in the trenches.

We've turned a corner as far as the talent level on this team is concerned. We now have enough talent and experience to expect a winning season imo. We have one of the best defenses in the league, but our weak offense will probably limit us to a one and done playoff appearance. It's hard to beat tough defensive teams or explosive offensive teams without big plays on offense. Dink and dunk with a lot of incomplete passes won't work for long in the playoffs.

Prediction: Winning season. Early exit from the playoffs.

    • I went to Canes games back in '04 & '05 when you were probably still a swimmer waiting to make your dad a father. There was no one there bc they sucked. Some of the lowest attendance in the NHL. As a Panthers fan coming off a SB season (03-04), I couldn't even believe they put a hockey team in Raleigh, and given the attendance, a lot of people speculated they would be relocated somewhere back up north where they would be supported and not "Mayberry." Seriously, educate youself.  That is reality. That being said, comparing that environment to 2024 Canes would be disingenuous. I was at PNC last year and know how great the current environment is. Comparing the current environment at BOA to 10 years ago is just as disingenuous.  Just bc you didn't witness how good BOA is when the Panthers are actually decent doesn't change reality. Seriously, surely you see that coming from such an elitist environment like the globally renowned world-class city of Raleigh, NC... I guarantee you if you went to a Canes game and a Panthers game in 2005, the difference would be unreal bc the Panthers were awesome and the Canes were (at the time) a moribund franchise. I have been in BOA when the whole stadium was rocking. You simply are young, don't know what you're talking about, but want to portray yourself as having knowledge about things you simply don't. You have a lot in common with modern day politicians and televangelists Like I said, Idiocracy has prevailed... Have a great day too!
    • Let it all out bro.   At the end of the day Charlotte fans just aren't that passionate as other fans. The Panthers and Hornets crowds are wack.    Go to a Canes game and you will understand this. Tell the family I said hi and Happy Father's Day.
    • Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Best place to live?  LMAO... that's your criteria...  Charlotte gets put all over those lists too... come on man... and those lists have zero to do with sports. I'm done after this bc I'm punching down intellectually here... The Panthers have been bad for 6 years now. You are obviously young and not overly educated based off the "dunks" you're putting out there that certainly are, so let me educate you today on the Panthers. The Panthers sold out for well over a decade straight. BOA has been as good an environment as there is when the team is good.  Fan support for the Panthers has been incredible when the team has even remotely reciprocated. The idea that Charlotte doesn't support the Panthers is utter BS. People in Raleigh have the biggest little brother syndrome of all time... Nobody outside of the Triangle cares about any of your "vaunted" sports team outside of Duke-UNC in basketball on a national scale. Sure, the Canes are great. But nationally, the WWE dwarfs the NHL in ratings. More people care about Cody Rhodes than Sebastian Aho... or anyone else in the NHL for that matter... I doubt less than 5% of anyone in this state outside of Raleigh even knows who that is... that's a knock on Aho who is a great player, it's just the NHL barely makes a ripple in the overall hierarchy of American sports. It's not in the same universe as the NFL or NBA no matter how badly you want to tell yourself otherwise. Raleigh is not a big-time sports city, no matter how much you want to scream into the abyss about it. Neither is Charlotte. But no one here is making such a nonsense argument... LOL it's good to be young and to be ignorant enough to be confidently wrong... WTF are you even on this board though since Charlotte is so beneath you? There is an actual discussion board on this very site for Raleigh sports since they are so superior...  Maybe it's bc I'm watching Idiocracy with my son, but your timing is perfect, my man... The dumbest among us have become the most confidence in their ignorance... God Bless America!!
