Funchess losing snaps weekly

With Cotchery being back, this is no surprise that his snaps have dropped.

Given that we're running so much more and efficiently, it's no suprise his snaps have dropped.

He's still a rookie and you  can't really damn him off these games. He'll grow into something better each game. He's shown plenty of flashes. His growth maybe a little slower than KB though. I ain't really worried about him.

exactly. Funchess snap % has fluctuated but it pretty much ffluctuatedwith Cotherys injury..

He has work to do but this snap count commentary missed the point on several aspects.

Funchess was a project WR.  I think the coaching staff knew when we drafted him, it would take a year or two for him to produce.  The kid is only 21 years old and has a lot of time left on the team to learn the ins and outs of the position.  It is unfair to judge him this year, being thrust into the starting role due to Benjamin's injury.  Hopefully, things start to click by the playoffs.

Should have stand in school

Would like to see more passes targeting Funchess near the sidelines rather than over the middle, at least until he has a better grasp on catching Cam's fast ball.  That should help to reduce the chance of interceptions off these frequent tips.

Since the Panthers are looking to go deep into the playoffs this year, they have a need for Funchess to develop into a reliable receiver ASAP.  The experiment will continue.

Patience grasshoppers.

Call me crazy but I'd love to see Shula draw up some quick hitch routes for Funchess early in the game instead of a 20 yard dig route in traffic in the 4th quarter.

Rivera did mention that Funchess is improving on using his physicality in getting off the line, he just wants Funch to improve his consistency next.

Giving him less snaps will impede his development. If you watch him during games he is running good routes and run blocking far better than Ginn and Brown, so he is an asset in that regard. We need to give him more chances for YAC because that is what he was known for in college. Throw him some quick outs or crossing routes.

The offense as a whole had 12 less snaps so obviously his snaps are going to fall as well. I'm surprised nobody including Voth accounted for that.

His % of total went up over last week.

Nice catch CSX, thanks for pointing this out.

Even though Funch's snap % actually increased, I do agree with those saying the lack of targets to Funchess or Bersin in the past 2 weeks is partly related to how few passes Cam has been throwing in recent weeks, and with Cotch back in the rotation, there really aren't that many to go around.

I like Funchess, I have no qualms with him dropping passes or even the occasional tipped ball. He's learning, but I think he is talented enough to be a huge threat once we get KB back. My understanding of the reason we took him in the draft was to take advantage of KBs extra attention. I will wait and see. We keep winning. Then we get our weapons back.

Funchess is getting open.  He actually has made key catches the last 2 games in the 4th.

I think he can work through the drops.  Cam stays with him and he has helped us win.  He is a 2nd round rookie.  Would rather stay w/ him than go to Bersin or Norwood yet.

    • If it’s all the same to you guys, I’d like to use this thread for Tuesday nights game as well to keep this hate going. I have a feeling Tuesday vs the panthers is going to be violent in that arena.    @LinvilleGorgecan you please add “and Tuesday” to the game thread?  They play the Panthers again Tuesday. Thank you sir!
    • Nobody on the huddle is saying we have an elite group offensively across the board. They aren't great. They're young. If you are expecting someone to agree with your position of blaming everyone around Bryce Young nearly three full seasons into his career you are going to be left holding the bag save for a handful of people who act like they are paid to defend his honor. Bryce Young is not a guy who has had to claw and fight his way into starting jobs in football. He's had the best to work with and been gifted roles since he was a teenager. The Panthers have one of the youngest rosters in the league and with us needing an infusion of young defensive talent in the upcoming draft we're only going to get younger. We need a QB who possesses the ability to elevate those around him. If you can't agree with me on that then there's nothing further to discuss.
    • All Bryce and the Panthers had to do was split with the Saints and a rookie QB. The bar was so low. They even had a whole bye week to prepare. The time for singing kumbaya was before that game. Anyone still talking about Bryce earning a second contract 43 games into his career is living a fantasy. He might get one from the Tepper owned Panthers but he's damn sure not earned it.
