Who should get the next statue - TD or 89 ?

Smitty admitted to loafing and stat padding the last several years he was here. He is a selfish person who is an asshole to everyone he comes in contact with. To me, he doesn't deserve a statue in the bathroom.

And I don't even care.  Smitty is a Hall of Famer.  TD is not.  Simple as that.  Neither one got the team a ring, so it is what it is.

Hall of fame is a different award. Who has been most important to the Panthers?  Its not an easy answer but I have to go with TD. Leadership, inspiration, Man of the year.

Sam Mills isn't in the hall of fame.

TD exemplifies what it is to be a leader, to make not only yourself great but the others around you better.  He did that on and off the field with his charity, has kept himself out of any negative spotlight throughout his career and Im sure will continue to set the perfect example of what an NFL player should act like on and off the field.

He is what the NFL wants every player to act like, let alone the Panthers.  That man needs a statue.

While harsh, I agree.  Not to mention the ending of the career of a fellow player, and being just an overall jerk to pretty much anyone who wasn't Jake or Big Cat.

TD, because @electro's horse has said in a prior post that they already have his statue made and are just waiting for him to retire.  So, it will save money if we give it to TD instead of Smitty.

Also because just as Sam Mills was not ever our best player on the field, he was an amazing leader and a great player anyway.  So is TD.  Smitty is among the best we've ever fielded, but I never saw him raising the level of everyone around him and inspiring the team the way TD does.

Thomas Davis... and its really not even close.

But with the way things are going... the Alt -Saints fans will be coming to Charlotte to tear down Sam Mills statue because during his tenure as Panther's legend, he owned the Saints and Falcons offense.

Smitty is probably my favorite player of all time.

But it should be TD 100 times out of 100.

Smitty was a great player, TD is a great teammate. He is the embodiment of the "Keep Pounding" mantra the team as stitched into their jerseys. He persevered through adversity only to come out ahead on the other side playing at an elite level.

Walk into the building and ask 50 people what they thought of Smitty. You'll get a mixed bag of answers. Ask them what they think of TD and it will be unanimously positive. He's managed to make the pro bowl two years in a row during the twilight of his career at a position that is generally voted on with heavy bias in favor of pass rushers.

Dude was drafted to be a direct counter to Michael Vick back when he was unstoppable on Madden.

He tore his ACL 3 times and came back stronger.

He dislocated his finger on a play, popped it back into place, then made a tackle all within 3 seconds.

He broke his arm in the NFCCG then had surgery the next day just to make sure he would be able to play in the super bowl.

He's a leader on and off the field and won the WP Man of the year award.

Dude's a viking and he deserves a statue.

    • Malcom Spence is the best player remaining, hope he’s there.
    • The era that you played in, and, more importantly, who you played with actually matters. Honestly, that's why these issues will be debated forever, as it's just difficult to say that this person or that person is better when you're discussing the passage of time. As for me, after Rice, Moss and maybe Megatron and T.O., there's probably a dozen or so guys that can be argued about to the cows come home. Personally, I'm not putting Fitz, Harrison, Johnson, Evans, or especially D-Hop, Jefferson, Chase or Hill definitely in front of Smitty (and Colston ain't even in the discussion). Context and all that stuff actually matters. Things like the triple crown matter.
    • Some of those guys? Yeah honestly you can.  I would 100% take Steve Smith over Larry Fitzgerald, Harrison, even Mike Evans. He is 100% a better player than those guys in his prime. If you look at the numbers Smith is historically under targeted in comparison to his contemporaries. He was only targeted 150 times or more only once in his career. Fitzgerald for example was targeted well above that 9 different seasons. Had Smith played with Peyton, Brady, Greatest Show on Turf, or even with Warner in Arizona he would broken records. His 2008 season was ridiculous accumulating 1400 yards in 13 games on less than 80 receptions. All time he also lost a season due to injury in 04, barely played WR as a rookie. Got robbed of 1k season with Clausen. Thats easily another 1800yds minimum that should have been tacked on to his #s. The only guys I’d say for certain are better than Smith are Rice, Moss, TO, Megatron, Julio Jones, Antonio Brown.
