What kind of contract do think Earl Thomas will receive?

He is the best FS available coming off of a season ending leg injury. He wants to get paid one last time but will teams be willing to dish out the money? We all know how the safety market played out last season and a guy like Tyrann Mathieu ended up taking a 1 year deal. (He is also a FA but it looks like Houston really wants him back)

I have only seen him linked to Dallas and they have a messy situation on their hands after franchise tagging Lawrence. I am sure if Dallas signs Thomas before locking him up he will probably hold out and demand a trade like Le'veon Bell.

Do you think he would go for a contact similar to what Baltimore gave Eric Weddle a few years back, 4 years 26 million? We have some holes that need to be patched and I don't think we will be able to afford a top tier DE. We are limited on cap room but we can't afford do go into the season with Gaulden and most likely a rookie safety competing to start. (unless we take a safety in rounds 1 or 2 which the Panthers never do)

If we are going to make a splash FA signing our best bet would be a FS. If we can still afford it, go after a guy like Matt Paradis or Mitch Morse. We will have to pin our luck on the draft to land a DE because the only decent free agents have already been tagged or are going to be way out of our price range.

Seems to me more times than not when we try to make a big free agent signing we end up regretting it.  Earl Thomas will be 30 in May.  It looks to me we are trying to get younger on defense.  I would hate to see him get a 4 year deal like Weddle with us.

The contract he will sign will most likely reflect the player he once was and not the player he is today. Top tier FAs just seem to be too much for too little outside of a name. Mid tier guys seem to be the best value but it requires a team to have a very good eye for evaluation and fit. Not a lot of wow factor but the value is there.

Probably whatever Dallas offers.. seems like that’s his dream destination.. might give a hometown discount.

He definitely wants to be in Dallas but has told them he won't be giving a hometown discount. (which I think is bullshit)

Cowboys are in win now mode, but I can’t see jerry shelling out big bucks to a guy coming off injury again in the last 3 years. I’d be interested but contract would be similar to reid’s With a little more guaranteed money.

like op said, De, Fs, or C should be the main for us in fa, grab one of the top guys so come draft day we aren’t drafting hungry

Will he, or should he?

For me to sign him it would have to be a 2 year deal with very little to no money guaranteed after year 1.  Have year 2 packed full of incentives based around playing time.

He will not sign that deal.

One that we won't give him. Earl will be one of two places. Dallas if the money works out or 49ers to get back at the seahawks with Sherman IF the money doesn't meet his standards with Dallas.

This is probably why Dallas has optd to tag Dlaw again so they can secure Thomas NOW and figure out Dlaw later 5his) this offseason.

IMO the safety market won't have the cloud of Reid not having a job over it this offseason so more guys should have respectable contracts earlier this year than last.

    • I'm happy with TMac, but Tyler Warren was last season's Tyler Linderbaum for me in that he was at a position that wasn't one of the five pillars but he was the best player at his position AND one of the top talents in the draft. I cannot fuging wait for the Panthers to start winning again so that those guys fall to us like they seem to for teams like Baltimore & Philadelphia.
    • Still working on consuming all of these so I don't have summaries available, but I figured there might be another Huddler or three trying to kill time before tonight's final preseason game.   Panthers Blueprint: Training Camp The in-house produced Blueprint series has given behind-the-scenes look on the field and off. Start the day with Robert Hunt's family, be in the morning meetings, mic'd up players during practice (Jaycee, Rozeboom, Icky, and Bryce), roster evaluations by the staff, and plenty of camp highlights capping off with FanFest.   Processing Blue (Mike Kaye & Alex Zietlow Mike and Alex are back talking about a variety of topics including but not limited to: joint practice + preseason game vs. Houston, Trey Hendrickson trade rumors involving Carolina, training camp awards, draft pick draft, and various thoughts about the team.   Jordan & Jake 706: Opening Day Another in-house Panthers' production, the most recent episode of Jordan and Jake talk about how to properly balance intensity in practice, react to the starters being shutdown for the preseason finale, share their thoughts on the newest Panther QB, and more.   Raw Room - Ep 278 - Gas Pedal (ft. Mike Davis) Assistant special teams' coach Darren Bates' Raw Room podcast has former Panthers' RB Mike Davis on his weekly podcast. I'm about halfway through this one and it's been a lot of fun. The Raw Room guys (DB, his friend Alex Sweets, former Eagles/Chargers OT King Dunlap, and former Atlanta DB Jalen Collins) are hilarious and Mike fits right in. They talk about his football experience coming up, decommitting from Florida and how he decided on South Carolina, and more. Warning: If you're the type of person that is easily distracted by accents, despite XL being on the team, you might have issues with understanding the Memphis dialect. If you don't care about how somebody talks, just what they're talking about, tune in!
