Olsen tries to calm down the chicken littles

After last season's collapse, you would think that it's understandable that fans had reason to question things like our Oline or effort. Just win and a lot of that goes away or becomes a more civil discussion.

Example, we signed a center who is getting tossed around. That is a concern that isn't wholly subdued by the relaxation our line has a lot of gelling left to do.

Love Olsen but winning games is what is going to convince me they are fine.

My concern isn’t based on playbook utilization, but on fundamental football. It’s nearly the regular season and keeping our QB’s protected is still a concern. The effort level over the last two games has been concerning as well, that doesn’t have anything to do with scheme.

I'm concerned with the OL as well but having said this, the Pats blitzed a lot against the Panthers and in a real world situation, Cam would have called an audible and likely checked down to CMC.  CMC will slow a pass rush down in a hurry.

I had TV issues and had to watch the game on a Pats feed and the announcers were commenting that Brady was targeting new receivers and working on certain throws (as he usually does) rather than trying to hit the open receiver.  Perhaps Cam and the Panthers were doing the same thing and most teams are treating preseason like a practice now so us fans need to relax a bit.

man the trenches are one of the few things that translate from the preseason to the regular season. if you are having protection issues and problems getting to the QB in the preseason they aint going no where when the season starts.

This is true but it’s also a unit that takes some time to gel if there are new players, which there are two. Especially center where most of the call outs for the line come from.

    • I don’t know about floor in a team defense sense but we needed more.  The floor that I am familiar with is our QBs floor and it is so low that every other part of the team needs to be beefed up.     We tried our best to improve these things and I think we did improve the defense and we at least kept the offense  from sinking from no LT.  And ostensibly helped the receivers too.   So we kept a window open that we at least have a chance to improve our record by a game of two.  Which would probably give us the division.

    • Yeah. I am one of. those who think a JAG RB can eat with really good blocking. (Brooks is most important in my mind, in tbe passing game and that is what we’ll lose without him)  There are a lot of aspects to this. The big one that caused us to struggle is Young and his arm scared no one.  Best back, best blocking still cannot defeat a really good defense if they are not forced to respect the pass.  And teams did not.    But, a strong OL and running game Can get us over against weaker defenses.  And if Bryce still doesn’t scare anyone we can still win some games. Like last year  So it is really important to tend to that OL.   Get that straight and see if in his fourth year he can finally back defenses off. That is what if is all about this year to me, on the Bryce front.
