Let's say Grier looks pretty good these last two games

Didn't Kyle Allen look good in the last couple of games last year? Would that be Allen effect 2.0? To answer your question, i'd be pleased to see him have success. To have two good back ups would be a blessing. It all depends on Newton and if he stays.

If Newton is gone, you'll have to draft a QB. Unless the plan is to tank for a QB next year.

I would have liked to have seen Grier sooner to actually see if he is a better back up than Allen at this point. Two games isn't enough to be honest. The probabilities of him looking good are higher since there is no tape on him at all, at the NFL level. Preseason tape doesn't count in my opinion. Also a two game sample isn't enough either.  IF he would have started as soon as Rivera was fired, I believe that would have been enough. It depends if the Saints  have anything to play for, the colts I believe are out of the playoffs or have really slim chances to win. If he beats the Saints with their starters. I'd be very intrigued.

IF your scenario happens where he does play great, at least we'll have a young back up that can win in case Newton or whomever is the starting QB goes down again.

Floor, have a decent young back up. Ceiling, maybe find a starter? I just don't think Grier will have enough games to be able to tell.

I always want our guys to look good and I hope he has success out there.

More likely, though, is that he will struggle, take some sacks and have some turnovers. And it won't reflect on his ability in the future, no matter how many hot takes get posted here saying he's trash.

He and Allen are basically rookie QBs that were thrown into the fire behind a bad o-line with young receivers and a ton of injuries. They were also playing alongside a defense that took moral victories anytime the opponent didn't run up 30+ points on them. And the coach was fired mid-season while having one of the harder schedules in the NFL.

It's not a recipe for success for a young QB. It is, however, a great way to get experience, if you can survive it.

We might learn something about Grier in the next two games, but hopefully he'll learn even more. Let's take it easy on him, though, in our evaluations. He's basically being thrown to the lions like Kyle was before. But that's the NFL.

Sure.  Pencil him in as the backup with the thought of bringing another journeyman in to compete.

more importantly it will also  give us a multitude of endless  Grier vs Cam nonsense threads up until the draft.

the gift that keeps on giving...

You aren't going to learn anything more about Grier in these two games than you learned about Kyle Allen in his first two games . . .

I would be ok for him as a backup. Think of it this way, if Cam happens to get hurt again (hopefully won’t happen) and Will comes in and plays terrible we will need to draft our new qb anyway so an earlier pick would do us good. This draft will have Lawrence and Fields already.  If Cam gets hurt and Will keeps doing well we could roll with Will the following year. The last option is Cam staying healthy and we extend Cam while Will keeps developing as the back up.

    • I wouldn’t disagree with that.
    • I would say the fact that Dave Canales insisted on a 6 year contract should tell anyone all they need to know about his potential job security under the Tepper's. No matter how much we have heard recently about how David Tepper has learned from this and that. This is still the same man who spent $43.5 million to buy and then immediately demolish a house because of who owned it previously.
    • Same lineup to hopefully finish this one out tonight.  Here's today's projected lineup from the Hurricane's official website:   Tonight's Projected Lineup... Forwards Svechnikov - Aho - Jarvis Hall - Stankoven - Blake Ehlers - Staal - Martinook Carrier - Jankowski - Robinson Defense Slavin - Chatfield Miller - Walker Gostisbehere - Nikishin Starting Goaltender Andersen --- Injuries N/A Scratches Nicolas Deslauriers Pyotr Kochetkov Jesperi Kotkaniemi Mike Reilly --- PP1: Aho, Ehlers (Staal), Jarvis, and Svechnikov with Gostisbehere PP2: Blake, Hall, Jankowski, and Stankoven with Miller I'm getting to the point to where I have to get away from social media.  The narrative is still in some circles that Carolina has played no one.  I just don't see how you can continue to discount what our opponents in the playoffs have done, either to make it to the playoffs or the clubs they beat to faceoff against us.  I know this is how Carolina always get's treated, but if we win tonight our record is 12-1 in the playoffs. 12-1!  Meanwhile, along the way the "talking heads" had us losing in every round.  Maybe, just maybe, Carolina's just that damn good. /rant Here's to kickin azz and taking names tonight. LET'S GO CANES!!
