Derrick Brown, massive top-10 bust

I m not afraid to say I was critical and I still am of the pick. We KNEW he could play the the run. That was 90% of why we drafted him. But the other sticking point was that he would eventually develop a pass rush and eventually be a asset in that department.  I'm a all about value you guy and taking a run stuffer only early just isn't good business in my mind.

If your not protecting the most important position playing and or destroying him then your value slides a bit. Its the reason corners don't go number 1 or anything but tackles qbs and pass rushers.  Most tackles (quinnen williams) who go high flash the ability to chase down the quarterback. And you dont have to agree with me this my philosophy. I think run stoppers can be had rounds 2-5.

Their value took a hit when the league became a pass first league and the value of running backs took a hit. So did the guys who stop them.

I don't wholly disagree, but after how putrid our run defense was last year, just being able to slow down an opposing back is encouraging.  Our defense has gotten dramatically worse since the departure of Star, having an anchor on the inside of that line is important.  Doesn't help that KK was last seen on the side of a milk carton.  I think between Brown and burns we'll start getting some serious pressure up front that will also be able to stop the run, something that's either been one or the other for the last few years.

I agree... thats a fair assessment...im not saying he's a bad player at all. Im enjoying watching him in the middle.

Name one, please.

Love was peettty good until last year for the price, but he didnt forklift OG/Cs like brown.

Anyone hating on brown after no rookie camp, OTAs, weird TC, no pre-season games, convid, and new HC/DC/DL coach... Their opinion does not matter.

I don't necessarily disagree with you that run stopping is not as important as it use to be.  But I still think you have to stop it.  Last year, we saw that it didn't really matter how good our pass defense was because our run defense was so bad not many teams felt the need to pass it.

Also,  I think that its hard to quantify what makes a good pass rushing DT.  Star for example rarely got sacks or pressures, but he certainly made it easier for the other guys on the dline to rush the passer by being a force in the middle.

PICK NO. 7: DI DERRICK BROWNCAROLINA PANTHERS

2020 overall grade: 48.2

If you want a rough start to turn around, a game against the Los Angeles Chargers' offensive line is just the tonic required. Derrick Brown hadn’t had a PFF grade above 40.0 in his first two weeks of play, but he finished with a mark of 84.6 against the Chargers, the second-best figure on the Panthers' defense.

Brown was still relatively anonymous as a pass-rusher, generating just one pressure from 27 pass rushes, but we did finally see the dominant run defender from his college tape. Brown notched four defensive stops, and his average depth of tackle in the run game was actually behind the line of scrimmage, averaging a tackle for loss on the play
