how soon can we cut shaq? cuz hes ass ass

Recommended Posts

one of the underhated players on this board is shaq. most people (rightfully) poo on boston, whitehead, teddy etc, but shaq is terrible. he was never that good, its just that luke really covered the weaknesses of the lb core. hurney signed him to a long term deal because of his boner for linebackers, so how soon can we move on from him realistically?

I actually think Shaq Thompson has played very well lately, and this is coming from someone who's given him a lot of criticism in the past.  In fact his game against the Lions (granted, not stiff competition) was probably the best game I can remember him having in a long time.

But I agree, he's not worth the contract.  We'll probably cut him after 2021.  Well, maybe.

He’s solid every game and some games above average. I can’t really think of any games where you can say he played terrible. He just does not justify top LB pay which is what we are paying him

This. He does have some bad moments but is for the most part pretty solid. Overpaid for sure (should've used that money on Moton) but he's really not a bad player to have on the team. And he's been making some more impact plays lately which has been nice to see.

He won't be cut. He is the unquestioned leader of the defense. Every defensive player stats how important Shaq is to the defense and the team.

The whole thing with shaq isn't that he's a bad player. He's highly average. Wont win ya games won't lose you games....except where he was suppose to be a difference maker and thats the pass game. I think the idea then was were getting some uber athletic stud who would do somewhat what Chinn is doing now.

Shaq has been nothing close to Chinn, but he has become a legit linebacker... thats about shaq in a nutshell. Hated the pick then.. I mean do I hate him now?? Hard to hate a guy who you really can't blame for much except being over paid.  He's been around so long he's just a panther.. can't hate that after all these years.

    • New season new teams. Everyone we face has improved their team as well. There's now a full season of tape on Canales's offense and Bryce running it. When they win 7 games I will become a believer.
    • I mean I think its a bit disingenuous to call basically anyone here a casual fan. I don't think the casual fan creates a profile then logs into it, in the offseason, to comments on mundane offseason topics.. I dont think anyone on here would be considered a casual fan. That said, I get your point. My POV is from the player. They sign this contract, move their family because of these contracts. When Clowney came him, we basically had a coming home party for him.  So yeah, I get why we did it and I know that ultimately the owner doesnt 'save' money, but I can feel for the human side of the player, which is why I want them to get all they can while they can.
    • My guess is the NBA will either send Flagg back “home” to the Northeast in Brooklyn or Washington, or San Antonio so that they can keep building around Wemby. If I was a betting man I would take the odds on the Spurs. This definitely feels like a #1 pick that they will rig.
