Draft Mac jones

If you are looking for a raw guy with potential which may or may not materialize then pick Lance but if you want the most pro ready QB in the rookie class go with Jones. Is he the best, no. But he would be solid like he was at Alabama. And for those who say he needs a good offense around him, we are a couple of linemen short of a very good offense. I don't know about every scheme but he would be solid in ours.

I’m not trying to knock Mac Jones...honest question here...what traits/skills does he have that stand out from the pack?

Honestly, what traits does Tua have that Jones doesn't?

Tua went what, #4 overall?

I'm not advocating taking Jones btw, I'm just curious what evaluators saw in Tua that they don't see in Jones. They literally played in the same system, at the same school with the same players.

Tua has mobility that’s coveted and elite accuracy.  Those did not translate year 1 but let’s keep things in perspective, he’s a rookie coming off a bad injury.  Doesn’t mean he’s not a bust but the Dolphins need another year minimum to evaluate who he is.  The question is how patient will they be with a roster ready to win.

As for Mac, I’ve been very impressed with him.  Everyone questioning his deep ball reminds me of the people who said Watson had no velocity on his throws coming out.  Mac can sling it.  He also stands in the pocket and delivers under pressure, I’ve seen him get the ball off with poise and a defender about to clean his clock, that’s not something that can be taught.  To stand tall in the pocket like that under fire is a huge positive in the NFL where pressure is persistent.  So many QBs try avoiding the hit and throw off their back foot or turn there bodies making errant throws.  He also scans the field, he’s not a one read QB like so many guys coming out of college.  Mac Jones may not be what’s en Vogue in the league today with mobility being coveted but we’ve seen that pocket QBs in the right system can be lethal.

jones is better than tua

St Nick disagrees.  If Jones was better, Jones would have started in 2019 without having to be handed the job due to injury.

I don't see anything about Mac Jones that says starting QB in the NFL.  I would rather have Trask to be honest.

Agree.  If you're going to take a chance, take a chance on a guy who played in close games with lesser talent and displayed more NFL traits.  Trask led the only offense this year to end the game within a touchdown of Alabama.  That includes the Kellen Mond led Aggies and the Justin Fields led Buckeyes.

We currently have 0 offensive lineman and no TE worth anything. The main concern is while Moore and Anderson are great, they won’t have as huge of a gap between their competition as the players at Alabama did. I’m not saying Jones will be bad, he is just an unknown right now not unlike Lance and Newman. If we draft him I’ll get on board. I actually trust this staff to evaluate and develop.

Mac Jones would be good behind a good O line.  He would be absolutely murdered behind the one we have on this team not unlike the way Carr got murdered in HOU when they drafted him behind that patchwork quilt the fielded in front of him.  Much better fit in Indy where he can stand and throw.

Trask's arm strength (or lack thereof) is what terrifies me.

Go watch some tape.  I've watched him fit balls into tight windows all season.  It's on tape, you just gotta watch it.

Trask and Jones will be gone on day one.  Denver will jump on Trask in a heartbeat, and the New England Bellichecks will grab Jones . . . unless he's already gone.

    • That argument could be used for actual trolls. “If you don’t like it find somewhere else to post” is just silly. Some of us are just letting you know, you are sounding like a broken record on these threads. It’s just some constructive criticism. You don’t have to change your ways. I doubt you will. Just wanted to make sure you were aware. Feel free to deflect and use one of those GIFs again.
    • It went from he has to jump to he has to bend his hips. That’s changing it. I showed you clips of him throwing deep without jumping which means he doesn’t always have to. I liked and like Stroud better so I’m not really a Bryce defender. Just think you don’t have to make up things when critiquing our QB like he has to jump to throw it deep. There is plenty of ammo there without those exaggerations. Oh yeah the “you don’t know ball” argument. Classic.
    • I get the rookie QB formula and fully expected to see it implemented. Oh well. For the run game there was no or very little under center stuff until a good ways into the year. At least that is how I am remembering it. And no deep throwing - so stacked boxes which you can say chicken or egg on why.  Hard to run like that.  The QB that people said was so great was pulled for a designated Hail Mary thrower. That’s pretty unusual. And may speak to why we saw few deep balls in some part, along with the OL. To ignore that stuff means you aren’t working with all of the information when you try to mentally model or project what it might be like on the field.  Me, I have a slice of hope that he could maybe be NFL average but getting him to be a plus type of QB is a huge job. It depends on designing the playbook with certain values at the foundation that have to be adhered to first . You have to integrate the other pieces around this one guy’s skill set because he is a real outlier. And he has to learn the under center skill set. Maybe put that Only Positive thread back up people can go there if they don’t want to deal with rightly frustrated fans.
