Hypothetically We Land Watson

No, all we need is solid depth. Our OL was decent last year. We need to keep Moton, possibly Okung for one more year and find cheap upgrades at the guard positions.

Paradis is currently the only OL with a contract. "Finding" cheap replacements means getting OLmen other teams don't want. You want to put those guys in front of our new QB? You do know the salary cap is getting shrunk, right?

The price isn’t going to be three firsts AND a young, cheap superstar.

The deal I could see happening is:

McCaffery, TB, #8, 2022 1st, 2022 2nd.

If that is the deal it honestly isn’t that bad. You trade CMC which hurts but his cap is significant for his position.

That nets the Texans a transitional QB, an MVP candidate and multiple 1st round picks.

It nets us...a top 5 QB and probably MORE cap flexibility than what we would have if we kept those two guys.

We can't afford to trade CMC.  His entire $21 million signing bonus would get pushed forward into our cap.

Tag moton and use the draft to build up the oline...which should be the plan anyway regardless if we trade for Watson or not. Watson covers a lot of ills with his mobility as well as Brady’s scheme he will be fine. The oline wouldn’t be fixed in one offseason regardless of Watson trade or not.

Do what? You started another Watson thread which is what I said, damn we have some morons on this site

Who forced you to click on it and comment

I'd gladly trade 10 of you for one below average huddler.

Sign Moton long term and try to extend Miller (or another journeyman) for cheap. Draft some guards to compete in rounds 3 or later. LT is going to be the tough one... some of our backups looked serviceable last year, but we definitely need some new faces there to compete...

If it were just a typical trade I could see a huge cost but Watson has leverage and if he want to narrow the field down the cost will go down too.

The Carolina's is where he played ball and is also from Atlanta so playing in Carolina he'll be close to home.

What if he comes out and says he wants to go to Carolina and that's it.  The Texans will have to deal with what is offered.   While it won't be cheap, I don't think it will be as bad as many make it out to be.

We might get away with 3 1st and that's it.

To answer the question, Watsons Cap hit isn't that large this year or next.  We basically have 2 years to get a more favorable contract. This combined with letting go of certain players, gives us the salary cap needed to fix the O line by signing Moton, finding a gem or 2 in free agency, and through the draft.

Like others have said, I doubt we trade Burns or Chinn. But, hypothetically if we did, it would be easier to live without Chinn.

This is actually incorrect. His cap hit in 2021 is very low, $10.54 mil but his 2022 cap hit is $35 mil which would be the second highest paid year(after 2023) of his contract. These figures are assuming he is traded, they are substantially higher for the Texans with his prorated bonus money added.
