why did we sign teddy

he had a rep for taking care of the ball and being a really efficient signal caller. with our receivers and CMC that was supposed to be a pretty decent way to build something while the defense started gelling.

Don’t understand why people think he takes care of the ball. He averages 10 Interceptions a season and combine that with him throwing 15 TDs a seasons. If he was a 25 to 30 TD QB with only 10 INTs, yeah, I’d say he takes care of the ball.

Because Joe Brady vouched for him and Tepper was still naively thinking that owners should always defer to the "football guys", which of course is a mantra spread by the very same football guys to promote their job security

this was Hurney taking one last big swing to save his job.

It never made any sense to me, and still doesn’t.  It’s a move that sadly has Hurneys fingerprints all over it.  The move, and I said it at the time was simple.  You let Cam Newton play out the final year of his contract.  If he plays well great, you can sign him, or you can tag and trade him while his value is up.  If he plays like ass your letting him walk, and ultimately picking in the top 5 and drafting a QB for the future.

I don’t know why this was such a difficult concept for the front office and frankly is a move that’s given me pause.  It was the play to make.  Instead they signed Teddy, completely killing any trade opportunities they may have had for Cam.  Once Teddy was signed everyone knew Cam was about to become a casualty.  I just don’t understand the rush in signing him, nor the contract.

I’m praying I’m right and it was all Hurney because if it was Rhules incompetence I’m worried.  But I’m confident only Hurney can mess a situation up this bad, he’s just done this so many times before.

Good riddance to Marty Hurney the worst thing that’s ever happened to this franchise.

He has the same career INT% as Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins, slightly worse than someone like Kyler Murray. He's about mid-range for an NFL starter in taking care of the ball. The thing that he consistently sucks at isn't really turning the ball over, it's getting the ball into the endzone.

His career TD% is atrocious. I had to dig deep to find similar rates. Brandon Allen, Blaine Gabbert, Brian Hoyer. So, essentially he has the TD percentage of a career backup.

This is actually something I hadn't looked at until now but it is pretty eye opening to see where he slots into that category.

Because we made a big mistake. A GM trying to keep his job who's go to move is one move to win this year, a new owner who doesn't know much but knows he needs to win, new coaches with little NFL experience and no one in the room to know better is how we ended up with Teddy last year and now this year. I think all parties had a hand in this mistake. Hopefully they all learned something from that massive failure.

    • Good left tackles don't grow on trees, of fall in your laps.
    • Kelvin Joseph would be a riser rn if we had a typical combine. He would probably have a really good combine and at 6'1-6'2 he's got prototypical size at CB.  Dude is my #1 CB. I like him more than Surtian. I like him more than Farley. He is technically sound, patient and can matchup with so many corners in the NFL. Has some ill-elaborated "character concerns" I've heard varying degrees of, but would love LOVE him in the second and I'm screaming to the podium if he's there in the third. Davis Mills is my first real "has a chance to be a starter early" QB prospect in a few years. That said for us he'd still be my plan E for walking away with a QB this off-season. Can be a really rhythmic passer and makes some really good improv plays. Throws the post like a champ. But also has some real head scratcher plays and his mechanics are wonky. He reminds me of Prescott coming out, that's not to say he'll be the caliber of NFL player Prescott is. I'd try him in the Mid 3rd-4th range. He's my QB6 (above Trask). Could work well in this offense but I have the controversial take of saying the same about Mac Jones at 8 if they like him. Finally, and I'm piggybacking Voch Lombardi on this one I haven't looked into this guy much myself, but Richie Grant looks like the best FS in this class easy. Smart as a fuging whip and IDs routes and puts himself in the best position routinely. Would even trade up in the 20s if there's a chance someone might Darnell Savage him this year. There's a few more gems I want to look into. There's some decent mind round UTs I want to look into. I'm still novice at Oline so I haven't really touched this class.
    • I have seen him mocked as high as late 2nd, and as low as early 4th, but mostly middle 3rd.... His talent is undeniable, but some question his effort this past season. I don't put a lot of stock in that as he was playing through some injuries.
