"Oh my godddd it's like Hurney all over again!!!"

Or maybe...just maybe.......Hurney did things (some of which were very stupid) that every GM in the league does.  It'll be even more hilariously ironic if we end up drafting Parsons at 8th overall...even though I have it on good authority Hurney is the only GM in the history of the NFL who has ever drafted a LB or RB in the first round.

Mickey Loomis is 178-126 as an NFL GM. The Panthers are 200-215-1 as a franchise. One gets the benefit of the doubt due to success while the other has a lot to prove.

So I assume your position is that if you are winning then do it by any means necessary but if you are losing then the cap issues are just more problems and not justified?

There are mind numbingly stupid people in this thread. It’s like they think if you keep doing the same fuging thing we’ve done we’ll somehow see different results. We are a mediocre franchise and these are mediocre moves.

No. My position is that if you've proven that you can field a consistent winner you probably know what you're doing. Hopefully our crew will soon be there.

In fairness, we could end up being wrong on our takes of this....but this just seems so disturbingly familiar.

What the fug are you talking about you moron. Who cares about his injury. CMC is a stat whore for a position that typicall costs late round picks or a FA singing to be competitive at. He's failed numerous times with the game on his shoulders to score or gain 2 yards for a first down. He's a net negative. He does too much that is not his primary role, and too little at his primary role. The Panthers need 2 runningbacks because of his short yardage weakness.

His contract is absurd.

Well then the GM that wrote it must be an absolute moron, right? 🙂

    • I don't see it as drafting a premium player to sit and wait if Walker gets hurt. We need a legitimate swing T. Unless you have a Sewell or Slater type tackle that is pretty much a sure thing, these guys can need some time to develop year 1 just like a QB ideally should. They all haven't played the elite 5 star talent on the edge. If we think another franchise tackle has dropped to us at 19, you have to pull the trigger. The position is just too damn hard to find. If it's just a "we need a tackle and this guy has a T on the board", yeah, move on, take one in the later rounds. But if that guy is there, let him back up and learn a year, then slide him into LT on year 2 of his rookie deal.  I don't see us being able to offer Walker a multi year contract after a prove it year, pay Moton his final almost fully guaranteed year, Hunt, Lewis a center and do a 50-60m extension for Bryce. The 3 most important positions on the field are QB, blindside tackle (usually LT), and edge rusher. Those are the premium positions that cost the most and are hardest to come by. If a starting caliber talent is there at 19 you have to pull the trigger.  I understand the need for a DT and S. I've been on the C and FS train for years. If we weren't staring at a potential Bryce extension, it'd make the decision a lot easier I think. It's just with all these huge contracts I don't see how we can hedge our bets on being able or even wanting to re-sign Walker, especially if he has a bad year. Icky and BC's injuries really hurt our long term plans.  If no blue chip talent at those 3 key positions are available at 19, by all means pass and draft another position. But I think it's pretty safe to say we don't have a guaranteed lock at any of them right now beyond Phillips, and they have to be somewhat of a priority.
    • Not completely accurate. I'm sure Roy is lobbying for him and Larry Brown has spoke put in support too. But Hansbrough has made comments pretty critical and hinting at a need for change. Joel Berry has gone a step further and said the standard has not been met. Scott Williams who was a teammate of Hubert's at Carolina has gone all the way and said it's time for a change at head coach.
    • 4.25 according to the ACC network broadcast. If only this guy was a couple years younger but he’s still a dawg.
