Grier’s career didn’t exactly get off to the best of openings. He was thrown to the wolves late in the 2019 campaign that resulted in two dismal performances under center and the introduction of Matt Rhule as head coach only heightened doubts about his long-term future.

Granted his 53.8 percent compilation and four interceptions over two games wasn’t ideal as a rookie. But Grier was sacked on 10.8 percent of his plays and this is something that clearly played a significant role in his demise.

It might be now or never for Grier, who does have a cannon for an arm and is one of the hardest workers around

IM NOT SAYING HE’S OUR ANSWER

But for sake of conversation, do you think there’s any chance this staff thinks Grier could lead this team? Going into year 3, do you think he could have what it takes to be an adequate QB?

Seems like he’s been the QB of the offseason for CMAC and DJ.

I hope he proves me wrong and is actually really good, but its hard to ignore the fact the time he did get live action in 2019 was some of the worst qb play I've ever seen, not just for us, but for any team.

Not disagreeing with you, as I missed watching whatever games Grier played but, what specifically did he do to stink it up?  A lot of negative opinions but not many specifics are mentioned.  Would really like to know.  Thanks in advance for taking time to answer.

    • OK, fair enough--however, since my point was that drafting a QB in the top 10 is stupid, if you consider the players who were not drafted in the top 10 or those who WERE drafted in the top 10 and did not secure starting positions with the team that drafted them, you should see the point.  Is it smart to draft a QB in the top 10 when only 4 are still starting for the team that drafted them.  Next, consider that half of that number, 2, were drafted outside the first round.  Next, there are 4 (Goff, Mayfield, Jones, and Darnold) who are starting on other teams after busting.   That number could increase as Arizona seems ready to move on from Murray, Miami is not sold on Tua, and jacksonville is still waiting for Trevor to start looking elite.  Bryce?   So to answer your question, there are MANY more QBs in the NFL who have busted and become starters on other rosters, were drafted after day 1, or are still on the cusp than the four who have become elite.  I thought that point was made.
    • I’m more upset that we are changing uniforms in the middle of this road win streak. We have won our last 3 road games in Silver Helmets, White Jerseys, and Blue Pants. We are supposedly wearing Black Helmets, White Jerseys, Black Pants this week… I am a superstitious person
    • He did so well they are moving him to RB, Legette to QB, and Moton to TE…. Interesting. Coker might struggle at LT https://www.panthers.com/news/panthers-release-depth-chart-ahead-of-week-12-for-the-2025-season
