Quarterback trade options

(I was tempted to use 'Will Grier' as a thread title since that seems to be a trend now, but thought better of it)

Word today that Patriot insiders are saying the team has decided not to pursue a trade for Jimmy Garoppolo. Reasons cited include everything from the 49ers stated desire to keep him (which pretty much nobody believes) to the team having spent too much money elsewhere.

With the 49ers trading up, each of the top three teams in the Draft now has a previous starter that looks to be on the block. Gardner Minshew (Jaguars) Sam Darnold (Jets) and Jimmy Garoppolo (49ers).

So if the Panthers were to decide on a veteran trade, which of these three would you make a case for?

(no, Deshaun Watson isn't an option; don't bother going there)

1. Minshew

2. Darnold

3. Garoppolo

In that order.

Minshew has a really good arm, can move, acts like a leader on the field when he’s not impersonating Joe Dirt. He’s also super cheap like 800k or so against cap, and we could get him for a day 3 pick.

Darnold isn’t a bad QB and has been in a bad system no but he has a higher cap hit than Minshew, would also probably take a Day 2 pick. He can throw the ball but he lets some absolute ducks go sometimes and when he moves he looks like he’s running on stilts.

Garoppolo has a large cap hit, would probably get him around the same price as Darnold since he would be such a burden on cap. I think he’s too inconsistent. Too much of a liability.

Would trade for Minshew and do it without thinking twice. There isn't a QB in the league that would have won games with the Jaguars last year. That team wanted to lose and there wasn't a damn thing anyone could do that was going to prevent that from happening. He is better than what we have now and costs as close to nothing as a QB can cost.

I would rather have Minshew than reach for the 4th or 5th best QB in the draft at 8.

Fitterer should have a good read on jimmy g. If he believes he's capable of enough to be be the guy he could work. Sf wanted a backup to jimmy g at first. They can get cap relief by switching out jimmy g for teddy. Now if that's not enough, I don't think I'm buying in on him with that contract.

Darnold is closer to damaged good. The seeing ghosts was funny and all but damn if he didn't play like it the last year +. I doubt he is cheap enough. Also is he really good enough or another tannehill lite, good but not enough to push the team over the top?

Minshew is a wild card. I'm not ready to throw a bunch of money and picks after him. He is middling. We have a little less than that so he may get is to what .500? Do I see a SB champ in that guy? Eh not really. So do we want to be on the mediocrity treadmill with him?

Minshew for a 5th and I'd be happy. Darnold has all the talent but did he get ruined by Gase. I'd go as high as a 3rd comp for Darnold. Jimmy G, no thanks. If we could get Minshew, that's the route I would go first. Better than Teddy, not afraid to sling it, and with some receivers he might be able to do something. Keep our 1st and 2nd, get Sewell/Slater at 8 and Humphrey at 39 if he's available to start at guard then slide to center next year. If he's not, go safety and grab an IOL in 3 or 4.

He shouldn’t cost us much of anything to get...IF he gives us a Case Keenum/Minnesota style playoff run from a few years ago I’d say it’s worth it. At least he’s not afraid to chuck it and it’d be nice to see what Moore and Robbie can do when they’re actually given opportunities downfield. Just my opinion...I also wouldn’t mind darnold at a low price...garopolo has had too many injuries

As a fan I just don't want to see Teddy Bridgewater play for the Carolina Panthers. I don't like nothing about him as a NFL quarterback. He a cornball and the Panthers have to do something. I'm with any of the 3 (Minshew, Darold, or Jimmy G). Teddy has to get the f*ck up outta here.
