The pro-Darnold crowd is out in full force. I sure hope they are way more accurate than the pro-Teddy crowd.

Teddy had (and has) zero potential, Darnold has potential. I’m not “pro Darnold” per se, but I’m “open to the chance Darnold can be fixed”

why would anyone be against him?  You are right--he has a chance, and with the exception of Mr Pecker massage, all other candidates would too.  At least we did not send anyone 3 firsts for a bust.

I listened.   Guy makes a good case but  IMO if you go in thinking this was absolutely a horrible trade you will come out to of this still convinced that it was absolutely horrible trade.  If you have strong, I mean very strong reservations about the trade (that’s me) but are willing to be open minded it gives you hope but you are still in a wait and see mode.

that’s about  all I can say.

The only people saying this was a horrible trade are the folks who would find the negative in free ice cream.

It's an average trade that's being referred to pretty much everywhere as a fair trade.

So if another high potential QB is there do you pass? Say something crazy happens and like Zach Wilson falls to 8. Do you go all in on Darnold and pass on him?

Yep. For a few reasons too.

  • If they are all in on Darnold, it makes no sense to draft another young QB that highly and have Darnold looking over his shoulder at a guy that is also expecting to have the same job.
  • If Darnold doesn't pan out, odds are the Panthers are picking high again next year and can go for a QB then.
  • They might be able to fleece a team that is desperate for a QB.
  • Take one of the high LT prospects and keep building the team for the next guy if Darnold doesn't pan out.

I've been watching a lot analysts breakdown the Sam Darnold trade and a lot of them say that the dude definitely has talent. A lot of them say that it's the Jets structure and environment. I'm also very skeptical about this trade, however that vast majority of football heads believe Darnold still has talent and it says more about the Panther's coaching staff if they can turn him into a superstar, so I'm hopeful that Darnold will be our franchise QB we've been waiting for since Cam.

How much would we get to switch from 8 to 20 with Chicago?

Hard to tell. The value is cusp of end round 1/top round 2.  The Bears would REALLY have to love a player to give their 2022 first round pick because, in all likelihood, it's going to be a fairly high pick.  It would most likely be their 2nd plus something else to sweeten the deal.

I don't think next year's 2nd sends the message that we are all in. Also, having 2 talented young QBs competing with each other for the starting job would be a godsend.

WTF tried it years ago, and had Shanahan not completely fuged it up they would have been sitting pretty. If you go to Cousins instead of forcing RG3 to gut out some rough injuries, you have your franchise QB and a kings ransome. Either Griffin heals up and learns on the bench and is better in the long run, or you are the only ones who know how bad it is and you can keep Kirk and trade Bob.

No doubt a change of scenery was needed for Darnold but Brady has his work cut out for him. I will agree Adam Gase was a horrible coach and OC. Darnold was put in a poo situation where he had zero talent around him as well. Still he was drafted off of talent and that just doesn't translate in the NFL a lot because everyone is talented. Hell Cam struggled and he really was more talented than most of the NFL. We will see just how good Rhule and Brady are. No doubt if they can turn around Darnolds career they are as advertised. They definitely couldn't for Bridgewater though.

I wish I could say I have confidence Darnold will be solid but I do not. I think quote the opposite but I have to remain optimistic and at least support and cheer him on hoping he finds his mojo again and can be a good pro. My guess is it may not happen but we aren't out too much of it does not and then have next year for QB draft. I am not confident he will be good but he has my full support and I hope he will be.

    • I don't think so. I think once you're measuring electronically, the spot is where the sensor says it is. So if it says half yard short of the line to gain, that's the spot. Now how that works with scrums and the ball moving on two minute drills and poo is anybody's guess.
