Teddy Bridgewater's contract guarantee goes from $10 million to $17 million if he's on Carolina's Week 1 roster. 

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule said the team -- which recently allowed Bridgewater to seek a trade -- is taking a "wait and see" approach with the veteran QB. While Bridgewater could take a pay cut and stay on as Sam Darnold's backup, it's most likely the Panthers will cut ties with him this spring or summer, unless a team engages in trade talks. That's a long shot. The Panthers are expected to pick up Darnold's fifth-year option as part of the team's commitment to their new franchise quarterback. 
 

His days on Panthers roster are numbered.  He will likely be gone within few weeks.

We already have plenty of money set aside for Moton since we tagged him.  Doing a long term deal will likely yield cap relief this season.

I 100% agree.  You cut him and the Saints scoop him up, never just give a divisional rival a deal like that. He can stay here as a backup, and we continue to seek a trade.

If not traded now, teams will still be looking for QB depth after the draft and before camps start.

If you don't trade him by then, you simply stay patient. There are always injuries/situations that will have teams needing a QB during the season.

There's really no point to keep him.  We've got our new QB and we still have our primary backup in PJ "tank commander XFL" Walker if Darnold isn't the guy.

I suspect he goes to Houston or Denver.

If cut post-June 1st, we're still eating $15 mil but we're also saving $8 mil towards the cap.  Without a cut we're just wasting all of the money.  Then next year it's just $5 mil dead cap to eat and we save $21 mil. 

We've already made our big FA moves so just cut the kid if we can't ship him.  We seemed to have worked our cap situation to work with or without his contract.

      Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

      I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
