Grading how the draft was run

Lots of really head scratching decisions. I think we have gotten two starters and three potential depth guys with a chance to start.

The potential is definitely there on a lot of them. I just don't think the FO and coaching staff's opinions on roster needs align with my personal view of it. Definitely very concerning that we don't really view OL as a priority.

I certainly hope the moves work out and my skepticism is unwarranted.

I thought we gave up slightly too much to chicago (but not bad), but the rest of the trades were well done value wise. The picks i have no issues with at all.

Christiansen is older and spotrac has some data showing that "on average" doesnt work out well, but the guy is an athlete and he did dominate. If he were older and didnt dominate id be worried. Also a plus athlete.

I think tremble is an absolute steal. Lots of college coaches dont know how to coach tight ends so there is hidden value in that position generally.

Finally we have people in the organization that knows the value of multiple draft capital.  Couldn't have been happier.  Sure we could have landed a great tackle or linebacker with our original picks.  But we got players with good potential and able to lessen the draft capital we spent for Darnold.

I'm kind of wondering if Tepper had game planned with Fritter before this draft. Because this really felt like someone trading stocks and options on the market.

It was a beautiful thing seeing it happening.

Robbing the Texans with that last 3rd was just the icing on the cake.

Have we completely made up for the Darnold trade? Does anyone care about that 2nd anymore? We are playing with monopoly money now.

Everything has changed. And we fought that change at first because getting effed in a 2nd round trade is built in to our muscle memory.

And then the results started coming, and the picture came together like a Bob Ross Saturday afternoon special.

My God. Its beautiful.

Dont really care about losing that 2nd now because fit will end up with multiple 2nd or 3rds anyway

They really moved the chess pieces around a lot.

Do they have a real plan or are they just playing crazy and hoping something sticks? I don't understand their picks last night but it's not like they called me ahead of time and laid out their strategy. Maybe they grabbed some unsung heroes, maybe they missed some better choices.

Just going to wait and see how it plays out on the field.

I remember back in the day going "Jake Who?" when this unknown Cajun guy was trotted out just before halftime of a losing game. I hope I can be just as pleasantly surprised by this season as I was by that one.

I am not thrilled with this draft.  Only one lineman?  I mean if our line was anywhere close to set then we could have splurged on a Wr and TE but we left a lot of IOL on the table with our picks.  Not sure how they plan on fixing the line.

I think a lot of the trades were done just to say "hey we told you we were getting picks".   If you look at how Seattle traded back more times than not it didnt work out with the picks.  I am a firm believer that the talent is at the top of the draft.  Thats just the way it is

I don't like giving up day 1 impact players for depth and potential.

That's stupid. Not taking JOK was stupid.

We left a ton and I mean a ton of talent go by when we traded our 2nd.  I get they want volume but godalmighty I see at a lot of talent we just ignored and the settled for a hurt WR.   Damn.

If we are grading I am being generous giving it a B-

I cannot put a grade on this approach until the games are played this season.  But personally I like what they are doing with this approach.  Whether it produces the results they were going for will be determined when the season is over.

Think we just view him as an in the box safety that we don’t need. I wanted him too but it seems many teams felt he was tough to find a position for. He went significantly later than expected.

They did ok. We really won't know until the games are played. At least they didn't draft a LB early. There was a lot of talk about guys falling due to COVID and not playing. And that did seem to happen. The question will be if they will do the same thing next year.

    • Me, I'm sick of WWE channel hopping their PLEs and shows. Netflix now with Raw. USA still has Smackdown but you can't get it with Roku if you don't also have cable. Then they went from all the PLEs on Peacock to ESPN+ which required upgrading your Disney+ package. Then they frikkin' move Saturday Night Main Event with John Cena's retirement match back over to frikkin' Peacock, which we'd just cancelled two months prior because no PLEs there anymore. And there are fewer, but longer matches and its the same danged stories again and again. Rematch after rematch after rematch between PLEs. Fewer matches, fewer wrestlers, more promos (of lesser quality) and less action.  It just seems like it's all fillers and re-runs. I'm tired of Cody Rhodes. I'm tired of Jey Uso. I'm tired of the two Brons. Shuffle the deck a bit guys, this game's getting stale.
    • Chuba was 3 yards behind the 3 gap. He was lined up weak offset I. It was a 33 dive. Chuba needed to power through off of Ekwonu's block and slip off into the 5 gap where the Tremble had the lane sealed and Rick pulled the LB out of the 5 gap. Here's a visual if you need proof. Chuba did a jump cut laterally to the 2 gap on the right side with unblocked defenders crashing down and went airborne.   This is a 33 dive that should have been slipped off the block into the 5 gap. Chuba lacked vision, but you can see Rico and Bryce staring at the intended running lane sealed off by Tremble and Ekwonu. He should have read Ekwonu's block. The blocking and misdirection is NOT set up for the right side. The play worked. Chuba failed to execute on this play. Trust who you want to, but I wouldn't suggest you argue with the video. Anyone telling you this was drawn up to go right with the blocking did not analyze it. They are correct it should have been a called dive, and it was a called dive.  This was a weak offset I bringing Tremble in motion from the right to the left.
