IF we hadn’t beaten Washington

I know the discussion of beating Washington has been beaten to death.  However, now that the draft has taken place, who do y’all think we would have taken in that scenario?  Guessing it would have been between Sewell Pitts and Horn, with the likeliest choice being Sewell.    I’m good with how it turned out btw

Where do you think they had Wilson on their BPA board?  I assume they would have Trevor #1.

Hard to say. I don't think they had any intention of drafting a QB in this class unless it was Lawrence as more stuff comes out.

If we had not beaten Washington, we would have been able to trade up for Wilson.  I read we liked Lawrence and Wilson.  NY was not 100% sold on the idea of abandoning Darnold, and they would have taken a first rounder in 2021, 2022 and maybe a second in 2022 (what Darnold cost us) to move up.

But had we made the Darnold trade, I have to think we would have traded back---and still tried to acquire a #1 CB.  Here is why--there (in my opinion) were only 2 #1, lock down/zone/press etc. corners.  I said this before the draft in mid April---as much as I love Pitts and Sewell, we HAD to have a #1 CB to put on the WRs in this division.  And our CBs were KILLING us last year.  71% completion rate against us outside the numbers....who sucks that bad?

So trading back would have been a given.
If not an option, we take Sewell.  elite LT > TE/WR/Star

Actually, yes they were or rather yes Joe Douglas was.

The writing was on the Wall during that season from hell.

Yes, Adam Gase was history but Joe Douglas(Jets GM) wanted to draft HIS OWN GUY (as Sam was drafted by the previous GM) so he was gonzo no matter what.

but there were repots we talked to the Dolphins some about trading to 3.  If you are going to 3 it is for a QB.

That was before the Darnold trade.

Once they got Darnold, they were out of the quarterback market but they didn't want anybody to know that.

I think they would have drafted Lance if available

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
