PFF says the Panthers have the 20th(!! LOL) ranked WR corp in the NFL this year

Holy Hell...PFF says we have the 20th ranked WR corp in the NFL this year.  This is just absolutely absurd.  I dont know why they poo on the Panthers so much with all of their rankings, but I think this one takes the cake.  Im not saying we're number 1 or anything, but we damn sure are much, much better than 20th.

Outside of Panthers fans Robby Anderson and DJ Moore excite nobody. Even though they are great players and underrated nobody cares about them besides Panthers fans. Then we have rookies.. I mean I know we are better than 20th but I get it. I also couldn't care less about made up rankings and opinions. Mean about as much as the hair in my butt

I actually tend to agree with this list.

WE are excited about our guys but we dont have an overly exciting group of proven guys compared to teams a head of us on that list.

That said we have potential to be higher on the list but as of now we dont.

People need to temper expectations... we are still in rebuilding mode with a QB that might land us a top 3 pick next year.

Yeah, I do agree with this, as well.

Moore isn't a flashy guy and he isn't playing on a big market team. Plus he hasn't had quality QB's throwing to him to allow him to really shine.

PFF lacks self awareness. They're so in love with their system that they fail to recognize when that system produces an outlier that doesn't match with reality.

I live there work in stats aggregation, but they're rankings and ratings are practically useless IMO.

I think this is pretty bang on. I do like that they have a logic to their system but they also fail to take a step back from their spreadsheets to see if it actually makes sense.

I like what they try to do but they sometimes get lost in the sauce. It is difficult to be successful in what they are trying to do.

I body cares about them because people like consistency. People start knowing their name when it’s used season after season for a long time. Not 1-2 years.

Also 1k was the old standard some of you are showing your age. Doesn’t mean as much now days.

Nevertheless, I don’t understand how they went from 26th to 8th 2019,2020...and now losing Samuel brings them to 20th?  And at the end it says they have the pieces to be one of the better units...is 20th one of the better units? The rank does not match the prediction.

I like PFF for a lot of things, usually grades after the fact. These draft rankings a day later and positional rankings before the season even starts they do is trash.

    • I think evaluating QBs making the transition to the NFL is just a lot harder and more nuanced than draftniks make it out to be. That and the rookie wage scale means that if you don't have a franchise QB on the roster and you think this guy might be one you're almost forced to draft him now that you're protected from giving that guy a future HOFer type contract before he ever plays an NFL down. The expectation for mist of these guys to play right away is also not helping IMO.
    • Plenty of good teams made it to Super Bowls and some even won with meh QBs. Takes solid defense, good offensive planning and play calling and a helluva lot of magic. And I think the great QB elevating a team thing is overplayed too much. History just doesn't bear it out. Sure, it can lift a moderately good team like Mahomes did with the Chiefs, or Hurts did with the Eagles. And one can argue about Brady and the Pats (or even Bucs) but if you look at those Patriot and Buccaneer teams... there was something very solid in place already.  Heck, the whole idea that a single player can make or break an NFL team is vastly overplayed. The Cowboys have had a roster full of "star" players for decades now and have gotten bupkus in return. The Raiders have chased everything they could and have floundered mightily. The Giants have had star after star and nothing.  It's just hard to sell posters of a team. Give the marketing people a star though...
    • Seems you found the "exception" to the OP. Eli wasn't actually drafted by the Giants. But that's the only team he ever played for since he refused to go to San Diego.
