i hated the idea of artificial turf but after seeing them play on it, it looks pretty nice tbh.

Looks can be deceiving, over time the injuries will pile up at a higher rate than in the past. That's the reality. It's better than a complete dogshit grass field that isn't maintained well (see Redskins with RGIII). But when maintained well like BofA always has been, grass is just significantly better. Just Tepper being a greedy asshole with his stupid fuging soccer team.

I thought the pass protection would be worse. I was expecting a top 10 defense honestly but not a dominanting SB caliber defense.

I’ll basically be looking over my shoulder the entire season. Just not used to the team winning and that feeling of being exposed keeps lurking.

If we can get past the Texans then dropping one to the Cowboys won’t feel so bad but if we’ll can’t win this Thursday I’ll be back to feeling as uneasy as ever.

I didn’t expect Darnold to be so accurate on the move.

I thought we would win vs the Jets but Darnold would get sacked a ton, definitely thought we’d get outcoached vs the Saints. I was expecting their defense to be much tougher.

I'll be honest, I thought Sam would do well in  his new surroundings but I didn't expect that he'd develop chemistry with DJ Moore so fast.

I thought he'd lean heavily on Robby.

Instead I see he's utilizing everyone including Zylstra(sp?), Arnold, and even Ian Thomas (occasionally).

There was also that everlasting nagging feeling that perhaps the Jets David-Carr'd him into oblivion.....thank god my fears were unfounded as it turns out.

I'm not sure there's enough disk space on the huddle for mine, but here's a few:

I was originally wtf.....Darnold?
Then  I wanted to draft Fields.   Seriously another defense pick?
I thought trading down was stupid.
I thought a blocking TE in the 3rd round was stupid.

All of the above changed when I saw a video talking about the situation Darnold was in.  I then looked up some stats and realized that Rhule was onto something.  So I began to question most of my opinions and have been koolade drinker since mid May.  Cody on the C3 podcast cemented it for me.

I also thought Shaq was overpaid, but apparently LB's thrive like QB's do when you put the right pieces around them.

Since I've been a koolade drinker I thought:

Erving and Elflein were meant to be depth pieces and backups.
I thought we drafted BC to be our LT of the future.
I thought we'd be putting it up on the shelf to Terrace Marshal and Dan Arnold in the EZ corners when we're near the goal line.

It's a little early for this I think, but w/e

Two things: o-line and linebackers

I thought the o-line would be much, much, much worse, and would eventually land Darnold on IR. I'll happily eat my crow on that one, I hope they keep it up

I also figured with Whitehead not panning out, the LB group would basically be the same from 2020...that's been a very pleasant surprise, especially with Carter! He's certainly turned it around after being a liability a few years ago lol.. but that defense can be really special if they keep it up

I'm trying so hard to temper my expectations until after the cowgirls game, but having the #1 defense + a mostly solid offense is making it very difficult

Let's fuging go Panthers!

This is an extremely premature thread. Two games against the worst team in the league and a saints team who didn’t have half a dozen top shelf players playing as well as a bunch of offensive coaches out with covid. Real tests for me in the first half of the season are the Vikings, Eagles and Dallas. Vikings are much, much better than their record indicates and the Eagles and Dallas have explosive offenses. We come out of the first 8 games with a 7-1 or 6-2 record I’ll feel more confident going forward. The real tests on this schedule are the Bucs, Cardinals and Bills. Those are the elite teams we face this year. I wanna see how we play against them before I eat crow on anything.

Darnold is playing steady, solid football and that’s great. Before the season I predicted this would be his best statistical season but that the real tests would be how he performs in big moments. Remember we’re trying to see if he’s a franchise qb going forward. If we want to give him that bigger contract he needs to prove he’s a guy you can trust to make plays in big moments, in big games.
