Panthers at Texans - What Texans Fans are Saying

Here is what Houston Texans fans are saying about their Thursday night game against the Carolina Panthers. 

 

On the Carolina Panthers

Not saying the Panthers aren't a decent team. I am saying their first game of the season was against the Jets with a Rookie QB and their second was against the Saints who had players doing coaching duties during the game. Carolina has also played both their games at home. They have been very fortuitous so far this season in terms of everything breaking their way.

All that to say, do I think the Panthers win on Thursday, but I don't think the scoring margin will be more than the 10 points from the Browns game.

I really cannot disagree with much here. The Panthers struggled to beat a very bad Jets team and the Saints game could be an anomaly with them missing so many coaches during the game. Still, it is the Panthers defense that makes me think the Panthers are for real this season. 10 sacks in 2 games. That is difficult to argue against. 

 

On the importance of losing their starting QB

In what world do you automatically mark a W because of Taylor? lol. Unless Deshaun Watson was playing again this game was always going to be favored by the Panthers. The Texans are in a dumpster fire period of their history with perhaps the worst front office/head coaching combo in the league. 

 

On the prospects of their own rookie QB

He doesn't seem to have any special traits. He loaded up and throw a ball down the field and fell short by alot. If you don't have a top flight arm, your accuracy better be Brady-esque.

Sounds like they have a Jimmy Clausen type situation on their hands. Texans may be picking 1 overall. 

 

On signing Cam Newton

A team can be solid like that but they aren’t going very far and at best they are “better than they have any right to be” type of team.

This guy gets it. The Texans are on the decline in a big way. Why pull that bandage off slowly? Play your rookie, lose your games. Trade Watson and load up with lots of draft picks in 2022.  A proper rebuild is in order.

I get that we had a close game with the Jets, but it was also week one and it was Sam's first full game. If we had them this week, we would probably win 40-0. There was A LOT of points left on the field against the Jets.

Everyone picked the Saints to beat us until they didn't. Then the excuses started. The team that beat GB 38-3 was not drastically different than the team that was fielded against us. Definitely not 128 yards total bad. I'm not saying it had no affect on the Saints....but come on. It's not like the Saints got Thanos snapped in the middle of the game. They all knew this before entering the game. They praised Payton for his, "Next man up!" success....that never showed up Sunday.

The question of this game is: Who is Davis Mills? We don't really know. I would assume Taylor would be more of a threat. Can Mills and the coaches play around our pass rush? If our pass coverage is as tight as it was against the Saints, can Mills put it where only his guy has a shot, and do that with this pass rush breathing down his neck? My guess is a giant no. 

 I'd have to agree though. At this point, I don't see a point in signing another QB to come in and lead the team to mediocrity. Let the rookie play and see what he has. Trade Watson and throw down on a rebuild. Their division isn't all that great, so I could see reason to believe that they could possibly win that if Taylor stayed healthy. But I don't see them beating Browns, Bills, Chiefs, or Ravens in the playoffs right now. 

This game should be a win. (unless Mills turns out to be significantly better than Taylor) However, if we lose, I will lose a lot of expectation going forward.

While I think some of the difference between week 1 and 2 was the team getting acclimated against the Jets, I also think the coaching staff chose to play down to their competition. The punts from the 30, super conservative 2nd half offense, etc. Hopefully the thrashing of the Saints opened the staff's eyes on what works but my biggest worry is we play limp against the Texans and keep it unnecessarily close.

I just want a win so we can have 10 days to rest up and prepare for Dallas at 3-0.  This early schedule is where we need to get our wins.  The end of the season is brutal.

People are just dumb. We held Kamara to 5 freaking yards. I don’t think extra coaches change that in any way. What are they going to do, run the ball for him?

Like others have stated: even with everyone they had out, every expert still predicted a Saints win.

This is the NFL. Our defense just dominated two teams and is #1 in the league. Texans are trotting out a rookie QB on a short week. The only thing they have going for them is there is hardly any tape on Davis Mills.

True, but until you reach the paper bag on head level of fan response, you haven’t truly touched bottom as a franchise…

You can tell that first guy didn't see either game.  The Jets, we certainly did not do as well as we should have, but we were in control the whole game.  The Saints offense was simply dominated.  They literally went 3 and out over and over again.  At least he admits they'll still lose. 

Hopefully we go out there, punch them in the mouth, and blow them out bad.

They beat the brakes off the Jets and the Saints.  The problem was it didn't show up on the scoreboard.  If they convert on half of those missed opportunities (damn I hated saying that) the game looks a lot different.

Lol an automatic win if they had Taylor starting I want what that guy is smoking. This season might be a lot like 2015 with every other team’s fanbase downplaying the Panthers success and saying “blah blah bracket Olsen shut down Cam we win!”. Similar story this year might be “Bracket McCaffrey Darnold stinks we win!”

Panthers should win this game in blowout fashion. If they don’t then maybe those first two games were a mirage.

I believe we struggled late. But the score does not reflect the play on the field. It was a total shutout for 3 quarters. Same with the Saints. I am hoping that we finally have the scoreboard speak for itself tomorrow.

I don't think the outcome is in doubt at all. I just hope we come out of it free of injuries. The Injury Bug really seems to be hitting the league hard to start the season.
