This loss is on the receivers, not Sam.

Sam has to throw to where recievers will be. He does one of four things:

2. Throws it behind receiver so they have to stop or slow down, which causes some drops (not all drops, but some)

Countless complaints today that Darnold led receivers into defenders. So... does he throw behind them or lead them into defenders?

sam played good enough enough to win today and then some

He likely won't ever be a top 10 QB but with all the investment in the D and having CMC and the contracts they give to WRs and will obviously have to give to Moore he is more than good enough to win with an OL and running game.

Still have time to draft more offense next year and see what it looks like in the draft after that as they are not going to be drafting a QB and that's obvious. Seems like we'd make a play for Watson before that and obviously he's better than Sam but wouldn't be given this OL. I don't want him injured in a hypothetical either. Get the OL fixed first and foremost but if the chance to get someone like a Watson or Stafford happens you do that but Sam isn't the main issue just isn't going to be a top 10 guy.

If you fire Joe Brady while giving him no OL and only Bridgewater and Darnold at QB, I'm not even sure if Mike Shula would take the job. Top candidates are gonna elect to take other jobs instead.

So you are ok with robby or dj being the first read on every play? Comeback routes over and over? No QB is going to look good with this craptastic playcalling.

7 offensive points in 3 quarters. Without the blocked punt for a touchdown we aren't even in this game. I have no response for anyone who walks away from this loss thinking Darnold and these receivers don't need to put in a ton of work. That begins with Sam Darnold stepping up and being the leader of this offense. We have gone out of our damn way to make him comfy we don't even have a viable backup. If the receivers are struggling rally your offense and stop throwing picks or putting the ball on the ground.

The offense would've looked a lot better if receivers were catching the ball.

Every pass play is designed to get the ball out quickly because bad things tend to happen when Darnold has time.

Sam may not be the future. Sam may have shat the bed the past two losses.

But played good enough today for what he is. He led a last minute drive with precision passes. He side stepped poo blocking (once again).

Today we lost because of drops. Had the receivers caught those dead on passes, we would’ve won, guaranteed.

I understand the concerns of Sam but let’s keep this in perspective.

Its on the OC first...then OLINE....then everyone after that...

    • agree to disagree you are entitled to that opinion even though I find the argument completely bizarre based on data. I could type out a long paragraph discussing those areas but what’s the point. I posted a screenshot that showed Bryce in a similar post snap situation with a free rusher in his face which resulted in a TD - that’s what happened on the play so I posted it.
    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
