Questions that must be asked.

1. Why did we extend Cmac when he had years (plural) on his contract?

2. Why did we extend Anderson when he had a year left on his and we spent a high pick on a wr in the draft and with Moore coming up as well?

3. Why did we pick up the 5th year option on Darnold?

4.  Why didnt we address the oline in the draft?

I am sure there are more but those are burning questions for me as we sit going down the tubes.  For a brief minute it seemed like we were ahead of schedule in getting out from some bad deals but damn we are on the hook for a few more years with some dead weight.

1. Hurney is a terrible GM who loves to give big money to running backs. It’s been his MO his entire career.

2. Rhule convinced everyone this team was ahead of schedule and was ready to compete now. Also outside of DJ he is the only other proven receiving threat on the team.

3. Same as part one of #2 and the 5th year option gave us another year of a starting QB cheaper than the league average.

4. Rhule clearly believes you win in the NFL with a strong defense. This past free agency period was pretty bad for quality linemen and quite a few guys got overpaid. We ended up paying two mediocre players deals that are below the market average and because they were once first round picks Rhule thought he could coach them up to NFL starter standards. It clearly backfired but at least we’re not paying them 10+ million a year. I would have loved Slater but I also am fine with Signing Armstead come free agency.

1. Hurney loves him some RBs and LBs

2. This was a dumb move, Robby should have played out his year or sat on the bench, hes not an elite WR.

3. We picked up the option to build Darnold's confidence.

4. If Sewell was available we pick him.

1. CMC was going to hold out.  May as well pay a RB when he's productive.  There were zero injury concerns about him.  Goes to show you don't pay RBs.  That's just the reality.  Let someone else do that.  As much as you love having that RB, each carry, each hit wears them down.  It's just the reality of the position.

2. Anderson was going to hold out.  He wanted more money because he just had a career year.  Rhule wanted to take care of one of his guys. The thinking was that he and DJ would be great compliments with an upgrade at QB.

3. Cheap QB play.  Also, mentally, giving him the assurance that we'd stick through whatever this year.

4. I dunno....Where's the Fit memes?

Were they all good choices?  No.  But it's the cards we were dealt.  The better question is how do we fix the interior protection?

The CMC deal is certainly a classic Hurney contract but I have zero doubt he was just doing what he was told by Tepper. They still needed a fan draw and a face for the team. But man looking back at all that now what a disaster in the making. We moved on from one oft injured franchise player who actually produced wins when healthy while all but dancing on his demise and then replaced him with a new one at an increasingly expendable position who is now just as oft injured if not more. The Panthers just can't quit being the Panthers. The rest is just the cherry on top we laid out the red carpet for Sam frigging Darnold and didn't give him even a hint of adversity or a competent backup and we wonder why he continues to play like poo.

Dont even know why this even needs to be said about CMC but at the time it was either pay him or he holds out with years left on his rookie deal. RBs and agents fully understand their market now a days, they know team's want to use them up and get rid of them. CMC was just comimg off a great year and was the best player on offense and the team overrall with no injury concerns. Talking extension was good business sense on his end and the agent and at the time panthers cupboard was pretty bare of good players. Zeke did the same thing in dallas, he just managed to stay healthier than cmc.  Expect any top RB to holdout to get paid before contract is up, thank ron rivera for putting the team on cmc back like a jacked up work horse. If u treat a player like the end all be all.... you have to pay them like it too. Thats just how it goes.

They’ve all been asked and answered.

1) Hurney does Hurney stuff

2) Coming off best season, rookies are cheap, DJ could get away.

3) Sense of stability, show of confidence, relatively cheap for starting QB.

4) The only one we really liked was selected 1 spot ahead.  They drafted based on bpa and value.

I believe those are the answers most folks gave over the last 6 months or so.

picking up Darnold 5th year really wasn't a bad move and cap friendly. he has no help with his coaching and o-line. the middle of this o-line is so bad and it exposes Darnold. Darnold has the quality that you do not want in a QB-feeling like you have to force throws and you can make the throw on every play.

1.) Offensive lineman aren't a priority in the draft for this team or any long term success strategy.

A reasonable QB, running back and offensive coordinator would be successful and make a playoff team if they took care of the above 5 points......and until they do they will be exactly what they are now...........a bottom 1/3 NFL team that dries out the tongues of an undersized defense late in the game from too much time on the field because the offense can't control the time of possession in moving chains consistently.
