If Rhule is still here I really hope we don't.

I've said it a few times now, but I think they will, even though they should go Oline. Tepper needs something to sell to fans, which a new QB gives him, and Howell checks off several boxes.

  • Howell is a local kid, which appeals to certain parts of the fanbase.
  • Howell is an UNC guy, which is a massive draw to the UNC fanbase.
  • Howell is a fairly good QB, even if he has issues, which most do coming out of college.
  • A shiny new QB appeals to and appeases a lot of fans.

Worked with the Grier pick for about 2minutes so why not?

So, because it's Howell, the fanbase will overlook the fact he'll perform at a Darnold or Grier level?

There is a big difference in confidence and arrogance.  The latter is dangerous.

Rhule needs to go.

You know, you're on to something. That's Rhule's biggest problem; he's an arrogant know-it-all, without the ability to adapt--game situation or otherwise--and unwilling to take any responsibility for players' retrogression as a team and as individuals.

Yes. They did it with Cam.

As onmyown points out, certain parts of the fanbase will overlook anything for their guy. If Howell is the pick, it'll be the UNC homers this time.

Letting a lame duck HC draft a top 10 QB is pointless.   New HC should be able to pick his own QB if tasked with building up a team.

If Rhule stays, GM should control the pick and it should be on the line.

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.
    • 13. Carolina is coming. The Panthers are well thought of around the league. Their "process" seems sound. I think their off-season will be very interesting to keep an eye on. They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
