Riot: Panthers to take a major swing at QB?

Rhule is really an idiot if he does this.  Jimmy G couldn't get the 49ers a Lombardi and they are STACKED.  They have a good run game, George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.  They have a very talented defense.  But he still wasn't enough.

Why would anyone think Jimmy G is going to be the answer for a significantly worse roster?  We might as well trade for Jared Goff.

Or keep who we've got and allow better football minds (hopefully) to make these decisions once Matt Rhule is fired later this year.

Ultimately, this is the right call. Don’t mortgage picks, draft smart and roll with Sam. He’s rhules project, he should have to stick by him. Once Rhule is fired, move forward with another qb and have  loads of cap space.

Yeah, I kind of think forcing him to stick with Darnold instead of letting him bounce around with a new QB every year is the best way to go for the future.

You thought he was something special, roll with him. He's blown it on how many QBs so far....do we really want to trust him with anymore?

What, in his track record, makes anyone think he'll get it right this time?

To be fair, the 49ers were 20-10 up going into the fourth quarter against the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, then proceeded to concede 21 points. Not the first time a team with Kyle Shanahan calling the plays has choked in the fourth quarter in a Super Bowl.

That said, Jimmy G is not the answer for our quarterback position unless he’s being used as a bridge while we develop the long term answer to the quarterback position.

In Rhule's mind, the only thing a QB like Jimmy G or Teddy or Darnold is missing is his brilliant coaching and tutelage.  Oh, Teddy and Sam? Rhule was just wrong about those particular guys. The process is still working. 1000%

Actually, in retrospect Rhule would almost certainly blame Teddy on Joe Brady while Sam was a "group decision". Shirking any and all blame is what Matt Rhule does best.

Spoke w/ Mark Schofield yesterday. Mark does great work for USA Today, particular on the film side. He suggested Garoppolo would be a good scheme fit for McAdoo in Carolina, though I didn’t necessarily see it as endorsement by Mark for Carolina actually making that move. I do think there is some validity to the buzz the Carolina might try to pursue Jimmy G, based on prior and recent reporting from Breer, this analysis by Schofield, and my own sourcing.

I said this last year when the 49ers drafted Lance that if Darnold was a bust, we would be looking at Jimmy G this year.  It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out they weren't going to keep both guys beyond this past season and Jimmy G would be available.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
