Mitchell Trubisky is the best play

If I was forced to sign a QB in free agency I'd much rather have Marcus Mariota than Mitch. Ultimately any sign or trade that isn't for Watson is just a waste of time and resources. Take either the safe option in Pickett or gamble with the upside of Willis in the draft.

First and foremost, we’re going to keep swinging and missing on the better QBs. This would happen after that all fails.  My guess is we’ll be staring at either signing a freshly released Wentz or drafting Pickett/Willis. Hell, I’d take a Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard over Mitch.

I consider Mariota a Tier above Trubisky. Trubisky is in the "Low expectations very unlikely to work out but still better than what we have" Tier and Mariota is in the "Good enough to be just good enough but not good enough to carry a team and win in the playoffs" Tier or "QB Purgatory" as it is known.

He's not coming here. He's already endured a dumpster fire in Chicago under Nagy. That's why he jumped on the opportunity to go to Buffalo as a clear backup without shopping for a potential situation to compete for a starting job. He was looking for a reset in a stable situation. He's not going to jump right back into a dumpster fire. I honestly think he'd resign in Buffalo as the backup before he'd come here to compete for the starting job. He knows he almost certainly only has one more opportunity to legit compete for a starting job. He's not going to waste that on a situation like ours where failure is virtually guaranteed.

Sorry, that's just the sad reality.

He should have been our offseason target over Sam Darnold but it's too late for another reclamation project now. Just draft one and if it doesn't work out swing again next year.

Yep. When we were busy getting wrecked at the negotiating table by the Jets, we should've been either signing Trubisky or trading much less to Jacksonville for Minshew. Better QBs at much better prices. But no... let's trade real assets for the statistically worst starting QB in the NFL in recent memory and then pick up his option to boot!

That's "the process" at work. 1000%

    • Right and I think we can have a conversation about that. But even with the scheme he should still be able to muster more than 1.5 sacks right? I mean DJ Johnson played in Evero's scheme too but that didn't stop us from calling him a bust. Scourton didn't seem to have trouble flashing. There can be different things true at one time.
    • I assume you are quoting my still. If so, I don't know what your argument is since mine was simply showing a play where Bryce scored a TD against the Rams in the playoffs where another poster used a similar still of Herbert's line to defend his poor performance last night. Like I said, Herbert is a better QB but Bryce wins the game last night for the Chargers. It simply is something he does better than Herbert and would play to his strengths. Someone even said earlier Chargers only win 1 or 2 games this year if Bryce was their QB which is so absurdly laughable it wasn't even worth trying to address. I mean this thread is literally called "Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panther's History" so I understand there is no objective arguments to be had here but I found that amusing.
    • I think his knee would make a good reason to switch to guard IF he returns.  Half don't.  Half of those don't last too long.  The strain on a knee (320lb man) vs speed rushers is more substantial.  So I would keep him if I could on a small contract (he will make $17.5 in 2026 fully guaranteed) and think of him as a possible guard for the post Lewis/Hunt era.  Knee injuries in big men are not invitations to invest in them.
