Honest Question: Why would Watson choose Carolina?

Money is a powerful thing bro. If its being offered with the option that he will have input on coaching decisions in the future... its a good offer. All that "playing with my friends" may be a little overrated. These guys have friends all over the league. They want to FIRST get paid... and then the other stuff is secondary

If the Panthers make the best offer and the Texans accept it. Watson has a no-trade clause but he doesn't have final say.

I was under the impression Watson has a no trade clause in his contract which gives him ALL leverage to any trade.

True he might take a trade with the understanding he gets his deal reworked. Looks like this is his last year of guaranteed salary on his current deal

He doesnt understand how the NTC works apparent

uh, you don't understand how trading an NFL player works apparently. The team owns his rights. Watson can veto a trade to certain teams, but ultimately the team has to agree to trade him in the first place. Watson might just have to accept to go to the places that offered enough assets to the Texans for him. Is that so hard for you dense mofos to understand?

So why didnt they do that this past year?

The Texans, Watson and the NFL all had an understanding that he wouldn't be playing this past season while the allegations and especially potential criminal charges were hanging over all their heads. A big part of that has now been resolved. Watson may have played for the Texans last year since no team was trading for him with everything hanging over him. If he tried to play or the Texans tried to play him the league certainly would've stepped him and put him on the exempt list. They didn't need to since both the team and player kept him out of the spotlight anyways.

-played college ball at clemson

-from Atlanta

-local media is some of the softest in the country and won’t continually press him on the issues he’s facing

-great weather 10 months out of the year

-a wealthy owner who has showed no indications of being cheap when he wants something

-a division that is his to own once Brady retires fully (though this applies to the Saints as well)

I'm glad somebody else brought up the media aspect. If watson wants to recoup his image and not get bombarded weekly by national media, charlotte is a great place for pro athletes to be invisible.

1) He grew up here and played college ball here - winning a championship - he is adored.

2) His QB mentor is Cam Newton - they spent a lot of time together in Carolina during the off-season

3) He doesn't have many choices

4) CAROLINA HAS A GOOD ROSTER!

the last point is overlooked. Carolina has a roster that IF HEALTHY - can make moves - especially offensively. Defensively, we will see who we re-sign, but between Carolina and New Orleans, we have more capital and more cap space and quite frankly better weapons.

    • I always just go back to what I said at the time. Trade Burns to the Rams because it's a fantastic deal. I was screaming it. I'm still angry at Fitt over that. Right after he turned down the deal I said he needed to get into a time machine and go back and make the deal. Hate that dude. Ruined our team. Trading D.J was a major mistake because what matters most in the NFL is the passing game, so you never unload a proven #1 WR when there are other options. Always trade a defensive player over a WR if you have that option available. Fitt was precious about defensive players when we had a passing offense that didn't function. That's how know he was completely incompetent. The passing offense is the top priority, so until that is functioning all defensive players are possible trade fodder. At this point we're in a rebuilding year under a new GM and a QB who looks absolutely horrendous. It makes perfect sense, if you follow all of our moves, that we would be the worst team in the NFL. Of course we are. You can't screw up as a GM that many times over the years and not ruin the franchise. We're exactly where we should be, dead last, or bottom 3. Whichever you like. But this is the here and now. Dan did a good job getting our 2nd round pick back, and we won't know about the picks until they take the field in regular season games. We're in dark until then, but if they suck the Panthers media will hide it shamelessly. Remember when Young was supposed to be a football genius? Yeah he was rancid turds out there when live fire started. There is some hope. Either Young improves and we win more games, or he stays about the same and we draft a new QB in 2025. Either way the NFL will help us out of this jam, but all we need is for Dan not to screw it up.
