Are we set at DT?

Anybody else concerned about the DT situation?  (It is slow, so I thought I would throw out a topic we have not discussed in a while)

  • We have Brown--not playing pro bowl level ball, but year 3 is good to a lot of young DTs.  He is a 320 lb run stuffer.
  • We have Ioannidis---or do we?  Washington fans say he is injured a lot.  Pass rusher, not a run stuffer.
  • We have Nixon--and he was pretty good in very limited action last year.
  • We have Roy---he sucked.
  • We have Hoskins---he sucked in limited action.

I am hoping we can sign or find another run stuffer, but I would like to hear what Huddlers know about the DT situation.

Ioannidis is pretty good so I’m happy with him as a starter. Nixon has looked like he has potential so if a starter gets injured he might could step up. Brown hasn’t lived up to expectations but is young enough to turn it around. Roy Sucks but he went to baylor so Rhule is loyal to him. I would love to sign/draft a back up but I think we are set at DT. Honestly I’m more worried about DE. Burns and YGM look to be the starters. YGM is young and unproven. We also have Haynes who’s played well in limited action but has been a career backup. We need a good DE in my opinion.

Fit said he felt good about the dline (and oline) and the work there was done but honestly, i don’t think it’s going to turn out well

don’t get me wrong I like the moves but i feel we still need some playmakers…fat ass bust brown really set it back

i expect more gash rushing and stepping up from opposing qbs this year per usual

Derrick Brown had a sophomore slump.  I think he’ll bounce back next year, he impressed me a lot his rookie season with his pass rush ability (not what he was known for).  Took a big step back this year though.  Wouldn’t mind signing Star Lotulelei if it’s cheap.  He’s not as good as he once was, but he’s better than a lot of guys on the roster

    • Biiiiiig eyeroll on this.  First, Look at historical stats of the most recent historical great DBs.  I plucked 3, Revis, Sherman, and Norman (cuzz he was our guy).  Combined post age 30, there are TWO pro bowls between those 3 and wanna get this...ZERO seasons with 16 games started.  ALL missed time.  It is RARE that Corners survive that long in the NFL and its about time we started recognizing this fact.  Jaycee is a good bet because it hasnt been anything seriously devastating injury wise, and with his sample size he could and should be an incredible piece for the panthers through age 30. Jaire kinda flops on the other side, hes 28...so hes under 30, but he wants his payday before it comes up, hes also been injury prone lately.  Bulk of the contract will be on opposite side of 30.  Will both of these guys help us be better in 2026?  SURE!  No doubt, but the question is, will these guys help us past 2026...not sure. The investment isnt worth the risk, nor would the ROI be anywhere close to worth it.  Neither guy is moving us from a 6-8 win team to a 8-10 team, period. My point is we're in this state a 6-8 win team IMO and he projects us as  a 4-6 win team.  EVEN if we think Jaire or Ramsey will make us a 6-8 win team, it in NO WAY is worth the money or capital to move that much just to suck kinda less.
    • I assumed he was retiring but apparently he plans on playing multiple more seasons.  Florida is gonna have trouble holding onto everyone.  Happens to all teams that have that much success.
    • I hate Marchand, but if he became a free agent.....
