Training Camp QB predictions..

I heard a couple of analysts say that Baker will pick up the playbook quickly. He excels in that area according to them. With that being the case, no reason that he will not be ready for Week 1.

Panthers keep 3, at least early on. Hopefully, they will get trade offers for the loser of the "QB battle" (Sam).

Sam and PJ are not competition, they are bad QBs taking up roster spots. Baker isn't competition he is the guy brought in to save Rhule's job even though the first 2 tries at leftovers proved to not be good enough.

The only competition worth watching is how Correl does or if we will be picking another new QB in the next draft.

Trade Sam for a 4th , we pay 10m of his contract, a coke and a happy meal . We net Baker for 15m and get our conditional 4th back .  Win win

Why would anyone give up anything to pay Darnold $8M a year? The problem with this idea is that they've actually watched Sam Darnold play four NFL seasons.

If we released Darnold all the offers he'd field would be 1-2 year prove it type deals with very little guaranteed money and some incentives built in to compensate him if he actually plays and performs.

So, we have actual competition at QB and not just babying Sam Darnold in the hopes his feelings mend and he improves. (Last season)

So, does Sam hold Baker off or is it Baker Baker Baker right out of the gate.

Also, backup QB. Do the Panthers keep 3 on the roster? They have to right? No way Corral passes waivers.

Would Corral have to go thru waivers to get stashed on the Practice Squad this year?  He would, right?  They're gonna have to roster him if thats the case...they need to just go ahead and cut Sam and be done with it.

I hope the Panthers are just playing games in saying that Baker and Sam are competing for a position. They'd be stupid to keep Darnold on the roster beyond the next couple of weeks. He adds nothing of value to the team at this point.

Try to work a deal with another team. Offer to pick up most of the salary (they are going to have to pay anyhow). Maybe get lucky and get a late round pick in the process.

Otherwise, release him and give him the opportunity to continue his "career" elsewhere. Just stop with the stupid games.

With a head start on the playbook Sam will begin camp as the #1 and take the symbolic 1st snap.

A focus will be placed on getting Baker ready enough play in preseason games 1 and 2 against the other teams 1s and 2s. Something like Sam gets Game 1 Q1, Baker gets Game 1 Q2, PJ gets Q3, and Corral gets Q4. Then Baker gets Game 2 Q1 and part of Q2 while Sam gets the other part of Q2 and Q3, Corral again gets Q4.

A starter is chosen after preseason game 2. The "they are close" option will swing in Bakers favor since Baker was just traded for and Sam has the better mental makeup to play off the bench.

Game #3 is mostly Corral's to get him some actual reps before he settles in on the bench for the regular season, however if Baker is the preferred choice he may get another Q1 before handing things over to Corral.

Panthers keep Baker, Sam, Corral on the 53 man roster. Corral is mostly redshirting (which I think is a good plan). PJ is waived and put on the practice squad unless Cheek surprises.

I THINK they will trade Darnold for a fifth rounder or so--maybe after or during preseason.  The Panthers should eat the salary (most of it) because they will be paying a distraction who is not contributing if they do not.  I'd rather go with Corral as the backup.

    • I'm not a Bryce hater and I would 100% move on.  Especially looking at how the upcoming qb draft looks on paper.  Hopefully he continues to improve but if in 3 seasons you're still chasing average season numbers then he's not going to be the guy.  You've just got to keep taking swings until you hit.  Average qbs without any elite physical traits cant get it done anymore.  So this year Hopefully he continues to develop and is above average statistically.
    • Meltdowns???? He was pulled by Canales because he wasn't executing the game plan after 2 games into the season so he could watch Dalton execute the offense and show Bryce the windows available in the NFL, how to push the ball down the field and how to step up and move around when blitzed. When Young came back 5 games later he clearly watched and improved. Enough he was named the future starter. He doesn't have a history of  meltdowns nor is there any reason to assume he will have one. From what I have read he is mentally strong and emotional stable. He may have bad games down the road, everyone does. But this is all a learning experience for him and so far he seems to be making progress. I can understand being hesitant on anything Panthers, but Young has surprisingly been able to gain his confidence after a disastrous start. You aren't alone in being cautious but I think he is the future. I thought he was too small and too short to succeed in the NFL. Honestly I was pleasantly surprised last year and am optimistic about the offense for the first time since Wilks and Dalton were decent.
    • The Rams wanted to trade up for Williams who they ended up within the end. They even told him that when they called him to let him know he is the pick. The other teams are only an assumption. Like the Cowboys, who took a guard. The truth is the team wanted to trade down first and foremost but couldn't get an offer the were happy with. They took McMillan because they felt he was bpa at 8 plain and simple.
