Another Baker thread? (interview)

It's better than the other one. He is saying the right things. He seems like a congenial personality. Of course that's easy in July with your new team before training camp, but still. I believe that he's been misunderstood.

I'm not sure if that's the case, but I'm willing to give him a chance.

Remember, people outside the Panthers also had very unflattering opinions of CN1 as well, despite all his teammates saying they liked him.  Hopefully that's what we are seeing here as well.

Baker has had his issues over the years but when you dump the most successful QB you have had in over 20 years for a guy with all those legal issues, you better make Baker look pretty bad or risk alienating your fanbase big time.  He is getting a bad rap even for him.

That’s what I don’t understand about all the hate.  He helped take the Browns - literally the brunt of all the shitty football team jokes beside the Lions - to the playoffs after going 1-15 and 0-16.  It’s insane.  The dude’s a capable QB which is one of our weakest point right now. We gave up a 4th rounder if he plays 70% of the snaps.  That’s a fine deal

Ive played xbox with baker a number of times. Hes pretty cool virtually. Still cares about winning more than anything. Even though I'm a nobody I was able to poo on him here and there and he just laughed. I can say some of the stuff I've seen on this message board are from people who have never actually watched any browns games and are blindly believing rumors about him. If you are shocked by his interviews than you really haven't researched him almost at all. Hes pretty charismatic..

Very valid point. You would think fans here in the Carolinas would understand that better than anyone. He's here you might as well dig a little and try to gain a better perspective on the situation.

Here we go. Sure, Baker seems cool and all (like I said: "congenial"), but being cool isn't quite a prerequisite of the job. At the end of the day, he had better be producing at the highest of levels if he plans to talk and taunt, stare down coaches or storm out of pressers. Let your game do the talking!

Cam owned any perceived social missteps with class, and he let his game do the talking even amid an imperfect situation, valid and invalid criticism. He never ever chose to fan flames intentionally.

I have two issues with Baker, first, I don’t really see him as a game manager. He’s going to take those risks. Which means he’ll flop or (similarity to a game manager) be surrounded with a good enough team to win.

But unlike a game manager he will lose you games. He will win you games too, but they’ll be messy, require a team, and that may not be enough. Second, the injury for obvious reasons.

This whole idea of a bad personality is overblown just like cam imo. What ironic is it seems to come from our resident cam Stan’s who should seemingly understand. But Baker isn’t cam.

The Browns shafted him (probably blind sided) and then tainted him when he spoke out. For a sexual predator facing suspension. That’s pretty low. All after he took them out of the gutter which was probably extremely hard. You think cam got no thanks send off? This was on another level. Cam has said similar things, even worse things. Who the fug cares.

Now I think he’ll suck but come in and win is all I care about just like with cam, Panthers fans can handle the drama if you ball out….see also Steve smith.

I agree he got shafted but I think he is more than a game manager. He took Cleveland on his back in 2018 as a rookie and took them from winless in 2017 to 7-9 or almost breakeven. That isn't a game manager but a fiery guy who single handed improved them and everyone around him. And in 2020 took them to the playoffs for the first time since 1994. That isn't a game manager but someone like Cam who carried the team.

Not sure if it was posted, but here we go. Really cool down to earth interview wit Charlotte sports live.

Bu..bu...but Baker is too arrogant for his own good.

The media portrayal of this dude is as bad as it was with Cam. Couldn't be more wrong.

    • Not sure who said it first, but Tepper is the correct answer. Still, I'm gonna go with Kasay keeping it inbounds. If, you subscribe to the butterfly effect version of time travel consequences.... When we win SBXXXVIII everybody's lives change: Moose never breaks his leg, We win it all again in 05. Tommy Jone is unknown and Peppers stays home, Champs once more 2008. No artificial pig heart turning JR into a creepy weirdo, no lockout, no Clausen. Fox and Jake ride off into the sunset on their own terms. No 2-14, no #1 pick. But, no laptop, no Blinn, 3 years behind The Golden Calf of Bristol, we still get Cam. JR let's him grow his locs like he always wanted, Smitty sees Cam in a new light. Dreads swinging, (and Smitty with his 3 Lombardis behind him) Cam is old enough to get those calls. No Manning narrative, Cotchery TD, PI against Talib on Philly Brown, 10,000 RTP calls and Kony Ealy SB50 MVP. No Jeans Fridays, no Tepper. KB doesn't slip on his own meatsweat mid-route in SD, Cam becomes the 1st QB to win 10 straight SBs. Retiring after being elected 47th president of the US of A, Cam ushers in the Permanent Proletarian Revolution across the globe, Xi Jinping bows in awe. "ẄøŘƙƐṛ§ őF ŧĤə ŵØRłð, ŮŊÏŦƐ!!!"
    • Yeah your right the owner was copping hand shandies while all this was going down
    • I mean not surprised the Patriots took him in and aren't trying to push him out. They've been the most morally bankrupt team in the NFL for a long while. Wouldn't be surprised if Vrabel has his own dirt on Kraft/Brady and other assholes from that organization over the last couple decades.
